I'm not sure what to say, other than that I feel like Ron Moore just sucked out some of my brain matter through a straw.

Could someone please grab a warm blanket for me and try to help me cope with that ending?

I know you have all discussed this before. And you will discuss it again.

The ending was definitely flawed....but the ride was so damn fun I don't really care.

I don't think the vast majority of people have been satisfied with a series finale since the series finale of MASH.

For the record, I liked the series finale to Battlestar Galactica.

how? it was awful.

SPOILERS

there's no way people would just give up technology completely, and never communicate about "the good ol' days" of air conditioning to their new African brethren.

Additionally, making the girl Mitochondrial Eve is just ridiculous.

Also, if all the cylons just left, why was Bob Dylan a cylon?

There's no way you could possibly know what people would do in that situation. Hence the words "science fiction." Anyone who complains about the abandonment of technology or Hera being Mitochondrial Eve is just nitpicking.

This is more of a legitimate complaint. They never properly explained how they could hear "All Along the Watch Tower" when Bob Dylan was still about 150,000 years away from writing it. Bad decision on their part for including it and not giving us a better explanation for it.

I'm one of the few people who liked the ending while of course admitting it wasn't on a par with Six Feet Under's finale. I think it is quite easy to imagine people giving up technology in that situation. Civilization fell apart in the end and they couldn't keep doing it. They "laid down their burdens" and ran off to the hills. In a sense, they agreed to hit the reset button and literally start from zero.

Mitochondrial Eve was a mistake, though. Never try to make your show that topical.

What a load of crap! That is in no way nitpicking. They already stranded themselves once before. How did that work out for them?

The idea that ALL of the cylons were dead was pure hogwash.

They cylons had their own PLANET. The idea that they would never be able to resurrect again is also hogwash as they ship was used for cylons too far to resurrect on the home world.

I loved the show up until the final episode. I just don't buy for a second that everyone would choose to abandon technology especially considering their last attempt to stay on a planet.

I think the series cancellation and rush to finish it somehow had a ton to do with the ending. If they'd been given 6 or so more episodes, I think they could have done it alot more justice. Having said that, it's not as bad as made out by some, imo.

I need time to let it all sink in... The ending felt good and had a few elements that I expected, but it just battered my brain with its literal deus ex machina. And the mitochondrial eve concept is just lazy and inaccurate. The series as a whole, though, was great. And for as much as I heard that people hated season 4, the mutiny arc provided some of the most intense and awesome episodes.

Most of the complaints about the BSG ending are legit. It was a flawed ending (Myth has changed my mind).... BUT.....

quote:

The ending felt good

I think that I am fine with the ending and I can rationalize away the problems just as much as I can rationalize bullets rarely, if ever, hitting Bruce Willis.

I mean look at what they went through? As a viewer you just wanted to see something good happen to them after the mutiny, Dee's suicide and etc, which really brought the series to it's lowest and most depressing point.

But it was that feeling of complete and utter desperation as a viewer that was great. When Adama struggled with every decision in Season 4 (sure he cried a lot), I just felt it the same.

BSG had some of the most complex and well thought out characters, I think I felt more attached to them than any other show or movie I have watched.

I mean there are series that just hit us at the right time, for me that was BSG. Others probably don't agree, but as much as I loved that show, I can forgive the flaws.

Hell, after everything they went through, living in a hut in the middle of a field sounds like a pretty good thing.

I actually don't have a problem with them swearing off technology. I don't think it would go as smoothly as Lee Adama saying "Nah, instead of building cities let's just chunk all of that shite and live off of the land," but I think it's reasonable in spirit. 20 minutes of arguing over whether or not to keep the ships wouldn't have made much of a denoument.

I'm just getting into season 4.5. this show is totally emotionally draining.

(can't read any of the rest of the posts yet for potential spoilers, ha)

I agree, it's one of the more soul-gripping shows I can ever remember. I think I wanted to murder someone during the Pegasus/ Admiral Cain arc and I had to take a break from the show a couple of times after some character deaths.

Next on the agenda is Farscape, unless Freauxzen wants to talk me out of it.

I loved Farscape but it isn't as good and the first season and a half are fairly standalonish and the first half of season 1 is fairly mediocre. That said, it does reward you for sticking with it in seasons 2 and 3.

It is a flawed ending but for the main characters of the show it made a hell of allot of sense.

Naaaa, it certainly is fun. But you'll probably catch up to me. I've been on Season 4 for like 5 months now, haha.

I finished BSG last night, and though I was ok with just about everything, no one has really complained about the Starbuck resolution, which really wasn't a resolution. That part left me wanting.

Up next for me: Firefly.

I just finished the series this past weekend too. What a great series. The first two seasons are phenomenal. The last two were pretty good.

As far as the finale, I liked it just fine. It did not bother me at all, really. They had to wrap it up some how, and that is how they chose to end it. The only things that didn't jive with me were:

The crew just going there separate ways, once they reached Earth. You just went through 5 years of hell, trying to save yourselves... then just leave each other alone?

Commingling the bloodline(s). Again, you went through hell to save the Caprican human race, now you are going to mix that blood with cylon and Earth species? Especially the Earthling part. They are, for all intents and purposes, aliens to the crew.

Lastly, the answer to all of the questions is "god". This did not really bother me, but it seemed like an easy out. But, I guess the show has always been about god.

Startbuck? god
Head six? god
Head Gauis? god

And what happened with the whole Kara Thrace is the harbinger of death? Did that shite just not pan out?

It sounds like I am bitching, but I am really not. Just airing my slight grievances. Overall, I was satisfied. If it were me, I might have just ended it with them coming over the moon, which likely would have had people more pissed off.

Did NOT mind leaving the tech behind. Even though this failure to pass down the history of your kind is probably why this shite has happened before and will happen again. You know, the whole if you don't learn from history you are bound to repeat it.

Did NOT mind that this was the past, and not the future, a la Star Wars (long time ago, galaxy far way). I guess I never really thought of the series as being in the future, more of an alternate reality that had no frame of reference in our universe.

WILL miss these characters! Might give some webisodes a whirl, when I start jonesin.
