Pros and Cons of working offshore

I was recently laid-off and it seems like the only real option I have is to go offshore. How hard is it to become accustomed to working 14 and 14. I've avoided this type of work for as long as I could but now I'm backed into a corner and I have a really good offer from a great company. Please advise, and I'm not worried about Jodie banging my ole lady.

if you have kids you will miss half their lives, that would be enough to keep me from going out there

marriages will NOT hold up. You're wife is home alone to go out with friends half the month. You're not worried about it now, but it will be an issue.

I'd skip 14 & 14 and go straight to 28 & 28 overseas then, can make a shitload of money that way.

Well I'm not married but I have been dating this girl for 2 years, I'm pretty confident that she'd remain faithful but I do think this is a major reason that I am hesitant.

28 days is way too long to be away.

What's stopping you, most major companies are switching to this due to the regulations in the gulf.

I enjoyed it...my company has part time type assignments offshore and overseas. Did a 2 and 2 rotation for about 18months. I could see why people enjoy this type of life style. You can live pretty much anywhere in the country you want to just have to make your boat or chopper out. Home for 2 straight weeks...so you do get lots of time with your kids..can take vactions when most people are working. Of course there are times it sucks but so do most jobs at times.

About the only issue I had was it seemed if something was going to go wrong at the house or with the kids it was going to happen when I was gone.

Do you eventually get used to it? My dad has worked offshore for 25 years and he likes it, but my mom is kind of a bitch and he loves the excuse to get the hell out of the house. No poon for 2 weeks kind of blows too.

All you have to do is call one of the major boat companies. The big boys are sending a shite ton of boats overseas right now. If you're lucky you may be able to get on one heading or already in Brazil

Do you have any experience working on a boat or a platform?

Yesyou get use to it, but you are always ready to get home. As long as you get on a decent rig and work a job that keeps you busy the 2 weeks goes by pretty quick.

Most if not all of these will be 28 and 28...some places overseas will have 2-3 days of travel back and forth so you are really only home for like 22-24 days. but you should get paid your travel days.

7 and 7 works for me, but I work relatively close to home. Not offshore!

One of the cons I hear the most is in bad weather the choppers or boats aren't able to get you to land therefore you work over sometimes.....and that's the last thing you want to do after pulling a hitch
