Van Dam has to be in the talk because hes KVD
Hackney should have some advantage being a "local"
Mike Iconelli has won here before and is familiar with the costal fishing scene, so expect him to do well also. I'm not sure who i like to win yet though

They can fish all the basin area and all to venice. I forgot the exact highway #s that are boundaries.

They must stay below hwy 90 it's going to be tough for most of the guys. The water temps and low water have prevented many from even getting bit in three days of practice. Many went to venice and played in the low muddy water with nothing to show for it. When the water does come up and warm up they will be guessing where the fish will go,instead of having located them beforehand. A guy like Hackney already knows where they will show up . He could easily win it because of his knowledge of the area. I'll be there watching on the water and in the arena.

anything below hwy. 90! Most of the spillway as out of bounds.

Van Dam, Iaconelli, and Reese will all find some fish. If they catch one or two big ones they could easily win it.
Hackney knows the area very good and so does Cliff Pace. I'd put my money on one of them, but with Sotuh Louisiana anybody can run into a bayou full of bass and catch a big limit in just a matter of minutes.

yeah. It should be a pretty interesting weekend for everyone. I'm definitely not counting Pace out either. Mississippi boy should know a thing or two about fishing around here

At this time of year with the cold water temps its anyones game.
KVD will do good on the crankbaits I would think.
Also I would think large plastics because the fish should be ready to stage/feed as soon as the temps rise a little and this weekend they calling for the 70's.
Disclaimer: IMO

I don't know if any one bait will be the ticket. I've caught good fish recently on cranks, spinners, swim baits, traps, and worms. I can't wait to see how the pros play it out

Will be in one of the bassmaster boats on Wednesday and Friday(if I don't get bumped by a camera guy), and at the expo and weigh-in on Sunday.
My pick is Cliff Pace, knows the water as good as any "local",he lives in Petal, Ms, and has proven to be a good shallow water guy. With the crazy weather we've had, you really need local knowledge to "guess" where the bite is going to be. All of that could get thrown out the window if one of the popular guys, (Reese, KVD, Hackney, Klein) get on some fish on Wednesday.

The pros love fishing the LA Delta. Everyone will catch fish, it is just a matter of finding the big ones. I fished canals in Gibson and caught close to a 100 bass with the biggest one being 2#, then went back the next week and catching maybe 5, but all being over 2lbs. The marsh is a crazy place to fish, but picking a favorite is too damn hard.
Whoever knows the most locals probably has the edge, so that will be Hackney's edge. But even Van Dam, the Michigan native, has a lot of connections down here.

Will this be the last year for BASS, will the guys go over to the FLW.
just seems they want to get rid of BASS in a bad way.

Fox Sports picked up FLW and does a good job promoting it.
ESPN picked up BASS and does a terrible job promoting it. They sold it last year though so they may be looking for a new home. Hopefully someone will pick them up and do a better job publicizing it.
I wish they'd merge. The sport isn't big enough IMO to support and widely televise two professional circuits.

The problem they are going to have is they can't go far enough north to find good water. I was in Venice this week prefishing and its a mud hole. Bayou Black,Spillway,Verrett all those areas will be on fire this weekend.Lauching where they launch limits them consideraly. Lots of talk down there about this being the wrong body of water for a february classic. Going to fish real small.

I've heard the water is low everywhere.
They'll be able to get to Black Bayou and Gibson. Van Dam won it out of Turtle Bayou in 2001.
The Collegiate National Championship (LSU vs Bama) is at Verrett this weekend. Anybody know if there is any tv coverage of this?

I tried to get on as an observer but was too late, so I'm going to work in the boat yard and arena on Sat. and Sun. I'm rooting for Hackney but KVD will be hard to beat!
