I hope Mett is better than him?

I mean, I kinda like JJ generally. He showed some grit by performing MUCH better late in the season than he did early. If he never played another down for LSU, I'd still remember him as an LSU player because I'm a fan of LSU football and any kid who goes out and gives his best for LSU.

That said, let's be real here. It aint like there isn't a WIDE margin for improvement at the QB position. Hoping Mett is immediately better than him is merely another reflection of the fact I'm a huge LSU fan and want us to win.

Why do people seem to think you have to have some personal agenda against a kid just cause you aren't completely impressed with his resume?

I don't think it would take someone very long to read your post history on JJ to see some of the dumb shite you've said over the past 2 years.

I admit to having a VERY negative opinion of JJ's abilities as a QB.

But why is it that people think this is an opinion of JJ as a person?

And, are people REALLY asserting there is no reason to hope for better?

This statement implies you are not a JJ hater.

Does that mean that hoping JJ improves and has his best (and a great) season as a senior makes me have a personal agenda against ZM?

By the way, name me three SEC QBs for the 2011 season that have a better 'resume' than JJ...

I think Jesse Daigle and Chad Loup were godawful QBs.

But, if I ran into them in person, I'd be thrilled to tell them how awesome it was that they chose to play for LSU and worked their asses off.

There is a HUGE difference between disliking a person's play and disliking the person.

Not at all.

In fact, hoping JJ turns into a top tier SEC QB is a perfectly legit hope and has no relation to one's opinion of ZM.

Now that you mention it, the SEC isn't exactly overflowing with QBs that'll show up to 2011 with much fanfare.

Here is a list with better stats. Looks like JJ would be 6th or 7th coming back

If We had Peyton Manning, I would hope the new guy is better than him.

But hoping JJ never plays another down says you are full of Ship High In Transit!

Sorry, not trying to be a jerk but the fact is JJ IS our quarterback and he has earned it.

He is by no measurement the best QB to ever don the P&G but he is the best one we've had since 2007.

ZM may very well have a much better career than JJ and if he beats him out for the gig in 2011 then so be it but you just can't pull against a kid who has taken three years of pounding by LSU opponents, media and fans but has stood strong and frankly came on very strong in the second half of this past season LEADING us to a MAJOR win over Alabama and culminating in a career best and dominating performance against a pretty darn good TAMU defense in their back yard.

Forgive me if I'm pulling for that kid to get it done and lead this team to the promise land, then he can turn over the keys to ZM who can drive the dynasty!

Sometimes, that sentiment does not come across in the things you say during the season.

Um, did I say that? Ya might want to read the OP again.

I actually agree with this statement. Until proven otherwise, JJ should be the QB because until proven otherwise, no one else on the team has been consistently better.

You'll note I have not insulted ANYONE in this thread who has said they hope JJ gets the job done. No need to ask for forgiveness as none is needed. We're merely talking about the opinions of the PLAY of QBs.

Probably true.

But, if people on this board are fair, it's probably true of nearly 100% of this board. IE, one would hope that what I said about Daigle/Loup, people would also say about Lee. And, 5 years from now, probably everyone who has ever said a nasty thing about JL would still love to shake his hand as a former LSU player.

I feel about JJ like I felt about Les Miles entering the season. Like the guy, but just don't have faith in him at all. Miles made some strides this year, maybe JJ can as well.

Just because I don't have much faith doesn't mean I don't like the guy. It means he hasn't shown that he can be a consistent, quality QB. I just feel LSU's future lies in the hands of a QB not named Lee or Jefferson.

I'll assume you understand that a resume usually includes entire record...

JJ is 21 - 8 as a starter; has 3996 passing yards, 755 rushing yards and has passed (28) or ran (9) for 37 touchdowns.

He has a 2-1 bowl record with two MVP performances in said bowl games.

Please for the love of Billy Cannon name me just ONE returning SEC QB that has a better RESUME???

W-L is a team record. LSU may have been undefeated with adequate QB'ing. You would have to do some serious stretghing to prove JJ significantly contributed to LSU's w/l record this year.
