Seafood Purist

The "I'm a discrace to Louisiana" post below got me wondering who else is like me when it pertains to seafood.
I love crabs, crawfish, shrimp, fish, and oysters. I just don't like them mixed or otherwise manipulated. While I like all ingredients themselves, I can't stand seafood gumbo, crawfish etoufee, redfish courtboullon, any seafood stew etc.. I'll eat it all boiled, fried, baked, grilled, raw (oysters). Maybe I just don;t like seafood stock. Seafood purist sounds a bit elitist, considering I would love to enjoy the ones mentioned above, I just can t stand them.

Not I.
However I'm not a fan of etoufee w/ crawfish and shrimp. IMHO etoufee should only be used with crawfish.
Crawfish should stand alone in any recipe, otherwise you're not doing it right.
Crab and shrimp gumbo great. Adding crawfish and I'm less pleased.

In general, I don't like seafood mixed with meats. I'm not a big fan of jambalaya, anyway, and certainly not with shrimp mixed with meats. I'll eat it, but it's not something I make or serve to guests, generally, and I never order it.
I don't want chicken, sausage and seafood gumbo. I don't even get the point. Meats just overpower the delicate flavors of the seafood in the gumbo because you already have the roux factor playing a heavy role. Give me straight shrimp gumbo with a dark roux and strong stock and I'm in heaven. Could eat it nearly every day.
Now, I love shrimp/oysters wrapped in bacon or prosciutto. Bacon and proscuitto are an exceptions to my no meat/seafood mixed rule. It's complimentary to some seafood dishes as long as not overpowering. Sausage/andouille flavors are just too heavy for seafoods to handle, in my opinion.
Other than in seafood gumbo, I can't think of any dishes right at this moment in which I would mix seafoods, so maybe I'm like you. I will eat them all together at a big seafood boil, though.

$5 says that when you were a kid, you didn't like your vegetables touching your mashed potatoes.

Don't know about the other poster, but I still don't like mine touching or the juices all running together and PLEASE DO NOT PUT THE PROTEIN ON TOP OF THE STARCH OR VEGGIE just to have the plate look "pretty". It reminds of people scraping food to the middle of the plate just before dumping it in the garbage, plus I want the juices of the protein with the protein. This excludes dishes such as rice and gravy, shrimp and grits and the like in the gravy/juiced based entree is made to be served over a starch.

Ah, glassman's favorite ingredient in seafood dishes.
I happen to love a good crabmeat au gratin with a light sauce, light cheese and jumbo lump. I do love the dish at Bon Ton.

I love all seafood. ageee not meant to be mixed with meat
crawfish etoufee - One of my favorite dish of all time.
I do not understand how so many of you do not care for it..
However it is hard to find a good etouffee unless I make it myself.
