This is my first shot at this.Seasoned with a salt, pepper and garlic power rub. Seared for about 2 1/2 min on each side. Then cooked at 300 for a total of 50 minutes with apple wood chips. Then let rest for 10 minutes.

Pics taken wiith camera phone so, not very hi-res.

Heard of it but am not familiar with that cut. How did it come out? What internal temp did you get it to

140. I think maybe it could have been taken off a little sooner. But the instructions I followed said 140.

looks good, my favorite smoked meat. i smoke then sear, ive tried both ways and i find it takes on a smokier taste this way. i also like to wrap it in foil when i take it off the grill.

Tri tip is big in California, which is where I got to know it. Great cut of meat. Marinate or rub it, then grill. Hard to mess up (unless you overcook).

Yall are familiar with the actual meat of the tri tip just not the whole tri tip as one. It is made up of the ends of three large rear leg muscles. Technically you could get the same cut from a cow, pig, or deer. The Sirloin is cut from this meat from the same muscles. It is generally a very lean cut of meat.

Love tri tip!! Got intro to it here from someone who grew up in So Cali. They use a seasoning called Susie Q, and Wor. Sauce. Marinate for a little while and then sear it and cook slow to medium. Sliced and served with homemade chili beans, garlic bread, and salad. We have also had it with tortillas of course too.

I got two of them from Maxwell's market. They were roughly 3 lbs each. Coast about $42 for both.

I think i'm going to get a couple more for the first Saturday of baseball season.
