I just noticed that ND has received commitments from 7 DEs in this year's class. 6 of the 7 are 6'5" or taller. They have two 5-star commitments, which just happen to be the #2 Weakside and Strongside DEs.

I think that 7 DEs equals the number of defensive player Charlie Weis recruited his entire time in South Bend.

BTW, I can't stand ND. I just came across their recruiting, and the number of DEs shocked me.

yep, they are in the top ten in recruiting too.

with their schedule, in a year or two, they will be back in the BCS Sugar Bowl getting crushed by LSU on national TV.

Not sure if smashing is the appropriate word to use with that picture.

lots of undersized DE's that will shift to 3-4 LB's or even LB's outright.

I completely misread the subject. I thought you were meaning 7 players leaving. Long day need a nap.

Agree. Negligent is more appropriate.

I read an interesting article on their DC's philosophy. He played at Iowa in a 4-3, but he runs the 3-4 (learned under Groh). Anyway, they recruit a certain size profile - DEs have to be 6'4 or taller to play DE in their 3-4 scheme. OLBs need to be 6'3 or taller. ILBs tend to be 6'3, 240. They also want their CBs to be around 6'0 or taller.

I noticed their DE recruits last week as well. Kelly, unlike Charlie Weis, seems to realize that football is won in the trenches.

Aaron Lynch is going to be a stud, and looked like the most dominant defensive player in the Army AA Game.

Weis tried, but for whatever reason, he seemed to have an issue closing on DL. I think they were in it for Marvin Austin until late (he may have even been a commit at one point), and then they lost Omar Hunter to UF.

Weis didn't recruit particularly badly. ND is a tough place to recruit at because of the academic restrictions. Not a fan of the program or school in general though.

No offense but I couldn't disagree more.

Even though they have sucked lately, they've continued to recruit nationally and bring in talent. For whatever it is, people still lose themselves over Notre Dame. I can't explain or understand it but Weis even talked about going into a high school and people were in awe of the Notre Dame thing still.
