Social security tax

I know the rate is dropping from 6% to 4% for employees. I heard also that the federal tax rate was increased. Is this true? And if so, does that mean it is basically a wash and we will see no difference in take home pay?

I would love to know the answer to this. Thanks for your help.

Nope, federal rates are unchanged for 2011 and 2012 per the latest tax cut agreement.

Wish they'd let us opt out. I'll likely never see any returns from my Social Security input.

Basically many people got a 2% raise this year in take home pay.
