Best turkey/duck combo gun?

I'll preface this by saying I'm a turkey hunter first and foremost (as mentioned in numerous other threads here), but I've recently taken an interest in duck hunting due to watching some shows and reading this board. It looks like something I could get into. I've got some friends that are really into it and it doesn't seem like the timing would interfere with my two most important things...turkey hunting and college football. I think I'm going to give ducks a try next year even though I've never hunted them in my life. Hopefully some of my friends can come through with a hunt for me, or maybe I could swap hunts with some of you OB duck hunters.

Anyway, I know several people that turkey hunt with a Benelli and love it. Would a Benelli SBE pretty much be the best combo gun for turkey and duck hunting?

A good choke tube will make a great duck gun a great turkey gun

if you are looking at semi autos stick with the 3 B's (beretta, benelli, browning) from there just play with all 3 and pick the one that feels best to you, as for the SBE a great gun but play with the Vinci before making a decesion

I am a new turkey hunter ( killed 2 last year on first year hunting them) and a seasoned duck hunter. Like Tigerpaw said stick with the 3 Bs.

I personally have an SBE II. I love that gun and have put it through hell that last two seasons. I picked it mainly because I did not want a gas operated gun and Benelli is the only semi with it.

Regardless of what you buy I would suggest a 26 inch barrel. It is the best compromise, IMHO.

Also, for ducks and turkey I only use 3.5 inch shells. I feel that they give me the best opportunity for clean kills.

Focus your attention on buying the duck gun that will suit you. On your best days as a turkey hunter you'll typically shoot 3-4 shells in a season. On a good day in the blind you'll do that within the first few minutes of shooting time.

The point being, you need to buy the gun which best suits you for wingshooting as you'll spend far more time shooting ducks. Any shotgun can easily be fitted into a turkey gun with the addition of the proper choke and/or sites...

I shoot a Browning, always have and always will. Any of the 3 B's will shoot great, find the one that fits you. Shooting 3.5" shells for turkey is overkill in my opinion. I've killed dozens of toms and have been lethal to 45 yds with 3" shells. I dont find 3.5"s much more helpful for ducks either, but will admit the 3.5 has its place for shooting geese..

Bump for an update....

I won a SBE II so my choice became pretty easy.

17 HMR with a 4 power scope.

You can shoot them in the head so there is no meat loss, just wait for them to get still for a second. Plus your range is greatly increased over conventional guns.

Unfortunately, most states frown on this.
