As Head Coaches and Offensive Coordinators these guys haven't exactly set the NCAAs on fire. Below is their Total Offense rankings (since 1998) for the years they served as either HC or OC. Can't we get a guy with better results?
Steve Kragthorpe (Total Offense)
1998 Texas A&M OC #91
1999 Texas A&M OC #58
2000 Texas A&M OC #49
2003 Tulsa HC #51
2004 Tulsa HC #73
2005 Tulsa HC #39
2006 Tulsa HC #24
2007 Louisville HC #6
2008 Louisville HC #45
2009 Louisville HC #91
Mike Sanford (Total Offense)
2002 Stanford OC/QB #111
2003 Utah OC/RB #64
2004 Utah OC/RB #3
2005 UNLV HC #91
2006 UNLV HC #84
2007 UNLV HC #84
2008 UNLV HC #73
2009 UNLV HC #78
2010 Louisville OC #71
Justin Fuente (Total Offense)
2004 Ill.St OC/QB #39
2005 Ill.St OC/QB #5
2006 Ill.St OC/QB #8
2009 TCU CO-OC/QB #7
2010 TCU CO-OC/QB #12
(In 2009 & 2010 TCU was #1 in Total Defense...I'm sure that helps your Total Offense rankings)

Well..... I'm liking krag over Sanford that's for damn sure.

Well obviously Kragthorpe looks better than Sanford. Using only the OC years for Kragthorpe shows he improved that offense every year he was there. And he improved the offense as head coach at Tulsa. The only decrease of success is at Louisville, could've been the situation.

if our offense was just in the top 50.

Interesting to me that Krags called the offensive plays at Louisville in '09 and was ranked #91.
Sanford took over the playcalling for the same program in '10 and improved to #71.
But, Krags does have the better career resume.
I'd pass on both...I hope Miles is working on something else.

I don't know why the Louisville situation scares so many people away from Kragthorpe. I think there are better options but I also think he can be successful here.

without seeing the line up of opposing defenses at a school that size, those stats are far from conclusive. Mid majors are out-manned in most of their OOC games.

I hate to hold it against the guy, but his wife's situation also scares me a bit.

didn't krag also calls plays at UL only the year they were #91?

Honestly I think this is the biggest strike. It's sad but true.

Is there anyone better out there? These guys seem to be mediocre at best??? What about Fuente in the OP... What are his numbers?

Whats the situation what his wife?

recurring mental illness issues, it's gotta be pretty bad because it's affected his job

Scary in a very bad way. I don't understand the need to rush the hire when guys like Chow, Friedgen etc are available. Sanford head coaching resume screams hell no at least Krag's turned around a dormant Tulsa program and Gus M. won with his players.

There is sooooooo much more to being an OC than calling plays. In fact, playcalling is useless if the team isn't capable of executing well.

Those rankings are a buzz kill.

Who's responsible for execution if not the OC
