I have a Glock .45 for the home. Have my CCL but rarely carry, always have my LCP in the truck.

Possibly thinking about letting my wife have the LCP in her vehicle and me upgrading to a subcompact 9mm or possibly a .40 to have in my truck.

I like the springfield xd's. Would rather not fork out too much money.

Let's hear my options... and pic presentation helps a ton.

I know i said subcompact but maybe i really mean compact... isn't subcompact smaller? I want something a bit bigger than my LCP size pistol.

I've been looking at the Baretta Px4 compact
it comes in .40 and 9mm
Able ammo has them for 475 right now.

Might want to look in that Kahr's... they are really thin and make good carry guns. Might be a little more then you'd be looking to spend though. If you shop around you could find a used one for a decent price.

Kahr is really an awesome sub compact weapon. I have one and carry it almost everyday. However they are a little on the expensive side. Also look at the Kel Tec pf9.... Another very good sub compact pistol, and it is about half of what the Kahr is..

Yeah, I really wan to go shoot one first though.
Read a few reviews the other day and the general consensus is pretty good. My only question is the recoil on the .40 They said it isnt bad, but im sure it is no joke....

The new Ruger 9mm is supposed to be a mid size carry gun I believe.

That the SR-9? Was looking at that on academy's website... decent looking... looks a little amateurish.

I believe the P290 is supposed to be pretty affordable as well... In the 550 range??

I really like my Kel-Tec PF9. Small, thin, light and affordable--what more could one ask for. Although the trigger is DAO, the accuracy of mine is more than acceptable. I'm partial to single stack magazines like the PF9, as such guns are easier for me to carry. It's a personal thing, but I don't like the blocky feel of the guns w/ double stack magazines. The PF9 disappears when carried in an inside the waistband holster and conceals very well in a good pocket holster.

If the PF9's 7 round mag does not carry enough rounds for you, you can get the P-11; it has a double stack mag that carries 11 rounds. Quality control appears to be spotty at times w/ Kel-Tec, but I've never had any problems w/ mine in the 1 1/2 years I've had it.

That Walther is a great looking gun with great specs. It's also $600.

If you are looking at the LC9 I would wait until the 2nd generation comes out, or at least until extensive reviews are done because the SR9 did have some stove piping and failure to go into battery issues. They came out with a new modified model.

So if you don't want a Glock or a Ruger, and you want something cheaper but in a similar vein, I would look at the Kel-Tec PF9:

It is MUCH lighter than a PPS by about 7oz, and shorter in length by about half an inch and half the price.

The choice will depend on your intended use. If you are wanting this compact or subcompact for a concealed weapon then cost should not be an issue..dependability and stealth are the issues. I carry a Rohrbaugh R9. It is not cheap but is very stealth and with no sights to snag on clothing. I hope I never have to use it but if I do I know I can depend on it.
