Amidst all of this discussion about the attendance benchmark, people seem to be forgetting the real question at hand. Even if they do hit the attendance figures set by the lease, there is not one person who will believe that doing so will singlehandedly secure the Hornets' future in New Orleans long-term. That being said, the question now becomes - Are the Hornets actually a viable entity in New Orleans over the long haul?

My good friend has done some excellent statistical analysis in order to answer to this question, which you can see through the link below. Feel free to express your own opinions on this thread (it may give some ideas concerning new things to write about in the future), but if you take the time to read it, you may be surprised at how good the chances are for the Hornets to be successful here for years to come... if they are given the opportunity to do so by the NBA.

Can New Orleans support the Hornets?

Lastly, please don't accuse me of trying to "pimp my blog" or whatever you call it (I've seen people called out for it in the past). What I'm sharing with you isn't even my own writing. I simply believe that this article statistically proves that the Hornets can absolutely succeed here, which should bring optimism to all of us avid Hornets fans. Don't lose faith, people; we can and we WILL help the Hornets thrive here for a long time.

Edit - 8:10 AM on January 19th

He wanted me to share this one with you guys as well, after taking into account some feedback that he has received... once again, thanks for all the great input! This one goes into more than just attendance, but also explains why attendance is so important.

I think so as long as there is a competitive product on the court.....winning titles year in, year out isn't necessary, but as long as we are a consistent playoff team I think they can be.
Fortunately in the NBA it isn't that difficult.....

I think chris Paul hurt us too. His injury followed by him wanting to leave scared a few away. The "we have no superstars" mentality automatically means we suck to alot of people. Hopefully paul has a change of heart and decides to stay

I think the wanting to leave was most damaging, guys was absolutely adored during our run a couple years ago, and has been a fan favorite the last couple years, but you can definitely see the disconnect after his offseason antics. FWIW I also think the Lebron fiasco even made the problem worse.

Yeah this era of players could be the most talented ever but they are also the most damaging to the league as a whole when they want to make super teams. Kills the small market teams. Who wants to play in Milwaukee?

Good article. And the good news is that the people involved in the new NBA ownership believe the franchise can work in N.O. if run properly and with a decent contract/salary structure league wide in a new CBA.

Two points I would make. Once local ownership is established, I really believe it will create more confidence in the team remaining here. More interest and support will be the result.

Second, I think Chris Paul is getting a bad rap about the offseason. There were no "antics" that I can recall. He made a couple of very limited comments last year about wanting to win. He has never made any public comments about a specific desire to leave N.O. Please don't bore me with that wedding toast crap. Neither the media nor any of those allegedly in his inner circle speak for him. I know for a fact that he enjoys his life here. He just wants to play for a contender, and he would love for it to be N.O.

Good article covering the attendance issues. Now that the Saints season is over, attendance should pick up no matter how the team is doing.

Its looking good to meet the attendance benchmark, Memphis game has already reached the figure, with only SA and OKC left

What's your source? I've always wondered if the Hornets made ticket sales numbers available before tip-off, but could never find them.

Very clever, I've never thought about figuring it out like that before. It probably doesn't give you a totally accurate number, but it's a hell of a lot better than the alternative.

I have been doing it the past few games, seems lately it is more accurate. today it looks like attendance for Memphis will be between 15K and 16K

I was pleasantly shocked at the size of Monday's matinee crowd. Especially against a team like Toronto. Maybe a sign of things to come?

Good article, very valid points here. Let's hope the NBA considers all of the above...I think attendance will continue to rise (as long as we continue to win) and I expect a local owner(s) to pop up after the CBA talks are finished. I guess we will see but your friend's perspective was interesting and informative.

They need Schouest. If Schouest does not put together a plan, they are gone.
