My wife got pilfered again. Someone stole her Visa info and racked up almost $19k with the New York Mint for gold coins over three days.....

If I had not been online checking the activity due to a lot of expenses from travel and home improvement stuff I assume it would have gotten taken to the max. I am not impressed with Chase on this at all. Have had the card for ~ 10 years and never made purchases for $8405 and up without contacting them, especially from the likes of the NYM. In my experience AMEX and MC do a better job tracking these situations and alerting card holders. We are not liable, but what does it say about a merchant when the people that own the card live in GA and the purchases are made out of and delivered to MD. The NYM would not answer my questions about their policies to prevent fraudulent purchases.

My wife must have a bullseye on her for theft/fraud, she has had ~ $50k taken through debit and credit card theft over the years, if it had been debit this time I don't think she would like me much anymore after the convo we would have had.

Moral of the story, don't let spouses have debit or CC's if they prove irresponsible. She calls me tinfoil head, I merely say they didn't buy $19k worth of overpriced coins on my card, did they.

I recall Rivers' thread on debit vs credit cards. Yet another reason why consumers should be able to demand ATM cards only, not debit, for account protection.

I'm not a Chase card fan either. They told me they wouldn't support Quicken downloads unless I became a checking account customer as well. So I transferred my credit card business instead.

Yes, he came to mind quickly. I have no idea why they don't embed chips in the cards and make you use a PIN like in Europe.
