Multiple is the word

LSU needs an OC that can Run a true multiple offense. There is no "Power I or straight spread any more". I understand that people run more option or zone read than other people, but most college offenses are more multiple than any thing. Florida with Tim Tebowe number one run scheme was power "O" and the inside zone, both power running schemes. Florida just got to it in a different way than other teams. Alabama runs a lot of the the same schemes, they just do it with a little different look than Florida. "Zone is Zone, Power "O" is Power "O". The formations are just window dressing. It is more about forming a relationship with your players and getting them to buy into what you are doing. Rich Rod ran a lot of "zone read" and zone schemes are not that much different from team to team. Rich Rod's O-Line coach at West Virginia was Rick Trickett (who was on Nick Saban's original coaching staff at LSU) who now happens to be Jimbo's O-Line coach at Florida State. Trickett is one of the best zone o-line coaches in college football. The difference is the philosophy of the play caller and the team in general. The mentality of the offense is what is most important. It is philosophy not an offense. There is not a team in college football that doesn't run multiple formations any more. The menatality of the coaches and team is more important than the formations or plays. Every one keeps talking about "Pro Style" what is that? It is a mentality. Watch a pro game and see if they don't get into multiple formations. All they are doing is running a lot of the same plays out of different formations, nothing more.

No
Identity is the word and we have not had one in 3 years.

I'd rather run one offense well then run 2 offenses into the ground

IDENTITY IS MENTALITY, that is what I'm trying to say. It is not a formation or a play call. Ask any one who has played college football and they will tell you that is what it is about. When five O-Linemen are blocking zone(which is the most common run scheme used in college football) they don't care about the formation they are blocking it out of!

This seems counter intuitive since the coach calls the plays. English major?

that is what we ran. Our offense had zero identity. If we want to run a multiple offense it needs to be ran rt with the rt personnel on the field.

So Alabama didn't run a multiple offense last year when they won the national championship? What about Ohio State? They have run it since Tressel has been there.

I don't think people are understanding your post
Auburn had all kinds of formations and motions, but at their core they were a power running team. Their 2 best plays were the dive with Newton and the sweep with McCalebb.

Yes they were. College teams do not run a lot of "plays" they do it with smoke and mirrors. Sure there are spread option teams, true option teams, pro style, etc, but the actual amount of schemes that are used by different college teams are not that different. There is only so many different things in football. Run game schemes basically amount to three things; zone schemes, gap schemes, and man schemes(which hardly no one does anymore) Everything in the run game falls pretty much in these three categories for the big boys up front.

Great post, I agree 100%. Aurburn, Florida and Miss St are more Power O teams, as stated by Saban in the NCG pregame. WV, Oregon, UM were more zone blocking. One thing I noticed with Auburn is they use some wing tee false pulls that I thought to be quite ballsy. This does make sense if your trying to take advantage of Oregon's quick pursuit defense.

This is what Pro-style means it doesn't mean all power running. It means multiple sets but no read option BS.
