Did LSU pass n a bowl in the early 80's?

Was there from 80 to 85. I kinda remember some talk then about Stovall passing on the Gator Bowl. Either because our team didnt deserve it, or because the payoff wasn't worth it and he would rather have his boys with families for Christmas.

You are correct sir, it was Jerry Stovall's first season and LSU wound up 7-4 with signature wins over Florida at UF and Auburn in Baton rouge. My sopomore year at LSU and I remember it well and finished up with Beating Nickie Hall and the Tulane Green Wave. Losses to a good Florida State team, a not so good Rice team at Houston and Alabama of course at that time and I want to say John Bond and MSu. Anyway as I remember the team voted down going to a bowl game . My oh My how times have changed. It would have been the fall of 1980 football season.
