Our University has been well known for not paying top dollar for coaches. Part of that is due to the fact Michigan has a "thing" about wanting to be known for academics rather than athletics.

From my understanding the pay thing has been a source of friction over the yrs between the 2 camps(academic/athletic). According to Dave it will no longer be that way(unsure if true).

Which brings us to our President.... Mary Sue Coleman. A wise woman from my understanding, but also one that favors Coach Carr and his fund raising for Motts Children Hospital.

I believe she is dead set against JH, and that would be due to comments he made a few yrs ago combined with Carrs dislike for him. There is also the drunk driving, and I guess a couple of instances of hitting folks over the yrs(Jim Kelly for sure).

Michigan likes to carry the "good guy" persona. Moeller went on a drunken tirade, and "stepped down" over it. They want none of that crap in the Michigan HC slot. When RR brought the WVU clusterfrick with him, there were some already hating on him. The losses gave that camp the reason to get him out.

The good guy stuff is something I am proud of as a fan, but at other times I think it gets us the "snobby" stereo-type.

I also think MSC is going to try to force that perfect Michigan image once again in this job search, and try to keep the Carr camp happy. Why do you think folks talk about Hoke? No bad marks, and makes Carr happy. The fact he is a "Michigan Man" is just icing on the cake.

Once more it will make us take the wrong person. Les should of been offered a barrel of money last time....everyone knows it. JH was the one this time(due to age), and if not, then Les once more.

I hope Dave actually gets a good coach, but I am getting the feeling it will be Hoke. He may turn out great, but there is no doubt Miles or Harbaugh could unite the fans. Maybe not the internal factions inside Michigan, but the fans are who ultimately pay for this stuff.

My fricking nerves are just about toast.

Miles would do that university a ton of good. He'd bring Michigan the respect they used to have. He's frustrating as shite, but all around solid.

pretty good assessment. The problem with the academic crowd is that Ann Arbor is not Palo Alto, if that makes any sense. They need to back off and let some dummies in, and they need to pay the coaches (and the players?) like they paid for that new row of suites at the Big House.

If they ever want to beat OSU again, that is.

I don't either. Those who say LSU can pretty much land who they want, and will are f'kin delusional. Its far too late in the game to get who they want.

Why do y'all really care what Lloyd Carr thinks? It sounds more like he's holding back the program.

Because he represents the whole "Michigan Man" thing. Good guy, though.

We may not get some of these superstar coaches that alot of folk on here want but we can still find somebody who can be very successful.

But uniting the powers at be is probably more important and as long as you have the Loyd camp and the Bo camp no coach is going go in with 100% support. And not likely to have the opportunity to gain that support because both sides want to be proven right. So you will have one faction hoping for failure and one faction hoping for success.

im worried our AD let his football coach go 6-45 at duke until he got shite canned.

LSU can get a big time guy. im worried they might go safe and get another 8-4 guy...

If Miles goes, they'll probably hire a search firm to seek interest from candidates. But, I doubt LSU is going to pay 4 million/year for a coach who hasn't won a national title before. We're not that desperate.

Spoke to my main source today and was told that Michigan will offer Les the job, but they are fully expecting him to turn it down.

On a side note, Les and the new Michigan AD were on a 10 day vacation together this summer. So they are good friends.

Chicken, do you think belowpar would be willing to say before the game tomorrow if Brandon or a search firm has been in contact with Miles' agent?

wouldnt you think if Hoke was the guy hed have been contacted by now; or at least publicly said they were interested in speaking with him etc.?

I would figure Michigan wants to be swift about this whole thing with recruiting ending fairly soon.

Then explain why Michigan brings in borderline recruits.
