I don't know if Chavis was ever actually offered the DC job at Texas, but he was evidently contacted and I really believe Mac would have taken him if Chavis would have left LSU. Sooooo, could the fact that Chavis chose to stay at LSU indicate that maybe he knows something we don't? Would he choose to stay at LSU if he thinks his future is in doubt(ie..Miles leaving for Michigan)? I know this was all done before RR was officially out at UM, but everyone and their brother knew it was a done deal. If Chavis was offered the job, do you think he approached Miles about his plans?
I know its speculation, guys, but so is everything else out there. Just thought it could be a possibility.

This is less speculation than anything else out there. This is common sense. This is actually well thought out. This isn't sheep mentality.

I pretty much agree with you. Les seems like a very decent person. I really dont think Les would screw over Chavis like this.
Not to mention Mich is gonna be a nightmare to fix.

That or Miles could have told him he would take him to Michigan if he left LSU. Not implying that was the case; just pointing out there could be two sides to that logic.

I honestly don't think Les knows whether he wants to go to Michigan or not at the time he would have talked to Chavis. Anything changes with what Michigan puts on the table. Of course Les is going to try to keep his better coordinator on staff.

I've been thinking the same thing. But my thought is that if Miles bales for Michigan, and it being late in the game to land a head coach, the Chief could wind up with the top job...or he's been promised by the admin that his job is safe, no matter what Miles does.

That's true. However, Miles' interest in Michigan may be the reason why he talked to Texas in the first place.

As a CEO-type HC, Brown needs to surround himself with youthful assistants.

If Miles told Chavis that he was staying, why would Chavis have even talked to Texas?

Why is Tx talking to Moffitt???

There's no way in hell that Chavis is going to want to go to Michigan.

He's a good S&C coach. Moffitt stayed after Saban left. Why would he leave now? Those in the know have said he and his wife love BR and aren't going anywhere.

Makes more since than any other Miles to Mich thread I read. He was either told Miles is staying (a good thing). Or maybe that Miles is going and your our guy, not a bad choice in my opinion. Possibly he may have been assured he and his staff are safe no matter who the next head guy will be (not very desirable situation while recruiting a new HC).

With all the speculative talk of if Miles goes & potentially who his replacement will be, I have not heard much talk about Chavis. The players love him, he has a proven track record of loyalty to the institutions he has coached. Not to mention he is a good recruiter and he has puts together a fine defense year end and year out. The fact that he would come in with a price tag considerably lower than a big name could be reason alone for our current AD to take him into serious consideration. I personally like defensive minded coaches, look at Saban. Those type head coaches usually install a ground pounding low risk high reward play action passing game. I have always believed that this type of system has suited LSU and we have the BCS championships to prove it.

Also entirely possible that Chavis is kept on by a new HC if Miles leaves, unless that HC runs an entirely different defensive scheme or something.

Yeah I would think Les would have told him to take the Texas job for $1 million, but Miles would take him to Michigan but I'm not sure that would be a good fit for Chavis for both family and recruiting. Fulmer could eventually get a job and hire Chavis back as well but again where and how far from home would that be

If Texas interest in Moffet is real, he might know something as well and Texas might pay a lot more than what Moffet is making

I think Miles is staying!

Here's what Mile's needs to say:

"You dont leave LSU to go to another program. You leave other programs to come to LSU."

that would be bad arse.

Why do people think they can take our head coaches, like its a promotion to go elsewhere????

The NFL is the only reason to leave LSU voluntarily, other then retirement., and Saban found out that's likely a mistake too.

Good points, Midline. However, I wonder if Chavis is really interested in being the Head Man? Surely, in his 20+ years of coaching, he has been approached by someone about being a HC. Makes you wonder! So much speculation out there, right now! I do think it is going to be Miles' job to take or turn down. Until it happens, we're like the REO Speedwagon song says,"Ridin the storm out, waitin for the fallout!"

Only reason is Miles tie to Michigan. Otherwise, there would be no speculation. Saban was never rumored to go another school...just the NFL.

the coaching carousel is so fluid and changes so quickly, its hard to know what to think/believe. its entirely possible that 2 weeks ago, chief talked to miles and miles told him theres no way he leaves, but now- is heavily considering it. maybe chief was never offered by mcbrown. maybe the AD told chief he'll be safe when they hire a new regime- maybe they know they want an offensive guy and will need a DC?? theres so many possibilities to what could have or will happen.

Regardless of what Moffit does or doesn't do, if you are implying that his actions would signal Les' intentions, I think you are off base.

Also, some people in here think Chavis would take the HC job if offered. I don't see Chavis wanting anything to do with the Head Coaching gig, nor would I want it offered to him.

I said the exact thing earlier this week...

as far as interviewing....most smart execs (or professionals in general) are ALWAYS open to interviewing when they contact you...

I love my job and situation and I interview with competitors as least once or twice a year...its good to have a conversation and to see what is happening elsewhere in your field.
