Does anyone know of any beer bars in the downtown Baton Rouge area? If not, do any places have a good selection of draft and bottle beer?

Of all the bars downtown I can't think of one that serves more than a dozen or so types of beer.

I would venture to guess Happy's has the most on draft, but not a "beer bar" by any means.

I think Happy's has about 16 on tap and they're going to be your best bet. Try The Bulldog on Perkins instead.

The closest you'll get to downtown is The Chimes on Highland at the North gates of LSU. The have a nice beer selection..

The taps at Happy's don't qualify for being a "beer bar" You'll have to go to the bulldog or chimes. Go to The Cove if you don't mind bottles. They have the best selection in town, just no draft.

As long as you're not minding bottles, check out Slinky's on Chimes St. One of my favorites.

Slinky's is very underrated as a beer bar, in my opinion.

No draft sucks though... lots of really good beers only come that way.

Nothing in BR compares to The Avenue Pub unfortunately.

If you're looking for a Beer bar, nothing beats the Bulldog on Perkins..I'm not sure the number but they have to have over 75 different beers on draft

The Cove has over 400 bottled beers. I would say that is the best beer bar.

Biggest selection... but nothing on tap hurts. A lot of the best new beers only come through in kegs or sometimes cask.

The Bulldog has a lot of taps, but they don't seem to do a great job seeking out new stuff or changing things up much. The Chimes seems to be slightly better in that regard but even they haven't had much new lately.

They don't need to change. They keep that place plenty busy as it is, I'd just personally like to see them devote some more taps to new and interesting releases.

Back to the original question... Happy's is definitely the best place downtown because of their tap selection (not saying it is good, just the best downtown). You can also get $1 Natty's on draft at Schlittz and Giggles.

Is the Blind Tiger more of a college bar? The gf & I along with another couple are looking for something to do after dinner (Saturday night). Age range for us is 28-34. We have been to the Cove & had a good time, but just want to try something new. Any other suggestions throw em out....

+1

they dont always have the beer that you want because they do rotate their inventory some, but they always have plenty of good beers
