Went sit in the blind for 6 AM, 16mph winds and windchill of 33, ducks were flying everywhere. Got started pretty early, Jumped on a flock of teal and 2 down and probably could have had more if I had more shots so I ended up getting pissed and took the plug out. A flock of speck's came in from the north and I unloaded 5 shots in a row on them. Much to my dismay, the choke literally melted to the barrel..not sure how this happened The next flock that came through I got off 2 shots and on the 3rd The gun kicked harder than I've ever felt a gun kick in my life, literally almost knocked me over. After I catch myself I look at the tip of the barrel and its peeled open like a damn banana.
what a shitty way to end a great hunt only 45 minutes into it

Merry Christmas everyone, hope yall have a good one

Either mud or a wad and since I'm assuming you were in a blind I'll guess a wad got stuck in your barrel.

I was thinking probably a wad. It was raining pretty hard and this has happened before when my shells got wet. Never seen a barrel explode though. It still shoots fine I just have a 25-1/2 instead of a 28 now

anyone know if you can just order a new barrel straight from benelli? The gun is just a basic nova pump.

Well thankfully you weren't hurt, guns/barrels can be replaced.

i did that one time when i was about 7, rabbit hunting.. stuck the barrel in the mud when i fell down, got up, shot a rabbit, went black... sucker split about 14 inches down the barrel and both halves "winged out".. Should be able to order a new barrel, or go to a dealer and buy one..

the choke was literally like fused to the barrel. Not really sure how else to explain it It was turned into a permanent choke
I don't really have to worry about it since it's now in a million pieces in the crawfish pond

not really worried about this either unless all of a sudden game warden got super high tech and is tracking my ip

Glad you're okay but that shite was funny. I didn't clean my gun last year and when I went to my choke was melted down in the barrel too.

peeled most of the metal off, the big part will have to be taken off with a hack saw. I'll just have a new custom 25-3/8 barrel

going to shoot it tomorrow in the pond to see what my spread looks like, hopefully not much different.

What the hell happened?

You might me able to have the barrel machined/threaded to hold a choke tube. Check this sight out... LINK You may have a good, usable shotgun for less than $100 and in less than a week!

You will not have a choke, so don't expect much.

That was a wad stuck, I had the exact thing happen a few years ago.
