It has a fixed cylinder choke.

My question is, can a gunsmith tap the barrel so i can put in a screw in choke for trap and skeet shooting?

The gun was purchased primarily for home defense which is why I bought the 18.5" model, but I would also like to use it for range shooting.

TIA

I'd imagine you could.

A better option would be to buy a 26 or 28 inch barrel if funds permit. It takes about 30 seconds to change a barrel, and a longer barrel will perform better.

Thanks, I'll look into that. By the time i pay a gunsmith to tap the barrel and purchase a few chokes, It may be cheaper just to buy the longer barrel.

A longer barrel is really the only way to go, if you want an effective bird gun. I would look at pawn shops for older 870's and buy the whole gun. This will be cheaper than the 200-250 of buying just a barrel.

you will definately be money ahead to just buy an additional barrel.
