My son is wanting a new 12 gauge pump shotgun for Christmas for duck/goose hunting. Wants to go synthetic. I shoot an 870 express super magnum but he wants something different than the old man. Have looked at the Benelli Nova and Nitro Mag but have read some negatives on Nitro Mag. Looking to spend $550 max, any suggestions on a solid gun?

Is the supernova just the semiautomatic version of the nova?

Nova. I have the Nova and really like it. Great back-up gun from my semi-auto.

Edited to add link discussing nova vs. supernova.

If im going to spend $600 on something, it aint going to be a pump. Plenty of good auto's out there for that price.
But of the two, BPS and Nova, i'd rather have the Nova.

I would rather a higher end pump over a low end semi for hunting ducks and geese . In mud and water. And 600 is on the low end of semi's

Mossberg 835. Shoots everything. He can learn how to break the whole gun down, and put it back together. Around 350.00 and you have enough left over for extras. Your welcome.

BPS. I have put mine through 9 levels of hell over the years and it is still a meat saw.
