Deep Ellum is for hipsters and random homeless dudes.
Lower Greenville ain't what it used to be, except for the Rose.
Embrace your inner douche bag and go out in Uptown.

Seriously, the deals at the Hilton Arlington are great and put you close to the pregame at Humperdinks.

Deep Ellum is a hard-rockers area..has been.
Greenville Ave, still has a lot of great small bars and is fun..(LOCALS)
must VALET parking if you do not know where to park, or you will get towed.
Up in the Addison area, there are a lot of restaurants and other places.
...This hotel is about 7 minutes north of downtown, but if you have your car, it's not a big deal.
The Crowne Plaza Hotel..it is nice, I do a lot of events there...it sits kinda by itself, but has nice amenities. indoor pool, etc.
If interested, I will give you a contact name..probably for $ 79 a night.

Do not stay in Lower Greenville. Deep Ellum is a great place to hang out, but it's also not the safest of neighborhoods. I'm a fan, but I wouldn't tell the tourists to go there. Stick to Downtown/Uptown for your hotel needs if you want to be in the city.
Addison is a good area, but it a pain in the arse to get to Arlington from there. If you just want a place to stay, also look at Grand Prairie. Close to Arlington and probably has good hotel deals.
Personally, I'd suck it up and stay in a Downtown hotel.

Where to stay - support the local alumni chapter and book where the deals have been made. More info here. Also some great information on pre-game festivities.
Where to go out:
* West End is DEAD. Avoid at all costs.
* Deep Ellum reminds me of Chimes St. with their non-conforming, "rough around the edges", COOL bars. Good bands. Cheap drinks.
* Lower Greenville still has some cool places, but parking is a beeotch.
* Uptown has some decent sports bars (MAT, Frankie's, Christie's), but overall it's overrun w/ d'bags.
* Downtown, although mostly a dead nightlife, still has some "upscale" bars but they're full of $30k millionaires, guys that tan all day, run up their credit card bills all night, and drive cars that are 5x their worth. Iron Cactus is one exception, IMO.
With all that being said, I'd lean toward a d'bag free bar in Uptown or a Chimes Street-like bar in Deep Ellum. Hope this helps ya bud.

Shreveport. Go to the casinos and drive in the morning. 180 miles to Dallas.

Screw all that.....stay in Fort Worth...just as close as Dallas.
And Fort Worth has a very cool downtown. Trust me.
Or just hit a strip club. There are tons!

Not true (Greenville Ave)is fine ...but there are really not any places to stay either there or Deep Ellum.
Deep Ellum is much better than it used to be, but no places to stay...and really nothing much there now.

Downtown Ft Worth -- best choice.
uptown Dallas, second best
Idle Rich Pub, Gingerman, Frankie's, MAT, etc.
Tad douchy, but hot chicks.
No hotels that are walking distance to lower Greenville, and Deep Ellum is not for anyone who is not homeless after dark.

Baby Dolls!
I've been to VInnie Paul's club, Treehouse. It's BYOB and full nude. The girls are a bit on the rock and metal side. There are plenty of tattoos and piercings. Not just the tramp stamp, but rocker chick stuff. I saw one girl that had fishnet stockings tattooed.
