Whatever round you can shoot accurately. With a good HP round a 9mm is more than adequate. I own a good number of pistols a few in 45 and a few in 9mm, i own zero 40 cals. I prefer the 9 over the 40. I also own a 9 in the xd and xdm. Very nice weapon. You will get a lot of opinions from the guys here but at the end of the day I don't think you could go wrong with either caliber.

I prefer the .40 cal. I just spent months debating the glock and springfield and went with the glock. My next purchase will be the XDM 40 cal 3.8 inch

That is what i'm looking to buy also. I went to a gun show the other day and fell in love with the XDM. If feels awesome in my hand.

For General Shooting- You will like the 9mm better.

I own both, as most OB posters on here do too. The 9mm is going to have less recoil and be cheaper to operate.

Unless you are a statistical outlier, I think the odds of you ever having to kill someone with your pistol will be slim, so get the one that you will shoot the most.

This.
Don't believe any caliber hype you hear on this issue. If you can hit vitals targets with either round, it will have the desired effect. If you can't... it won't.

Good ammo (Golden Sabres, Hydroshocks, Cor-Bon, etc.) and shot placement are all that matter. If one caliber or another seems to shoot more accurately for you in a particular gun, then that's what you should buy.

I shoot CZ 9's mostly.

This is the #1 thing when buying a pistol how it feels when you put it in your hand. If it feels good you will enjoy shooting it and be accurate with it and want to shoot it on a regular basis. I don't bash glocks or other brands I just prefer the xd line because of how it feels in my hand.

That is something to think about. Is the price for the ammo in the .40 that much more expensive than the 9mm?

That is what a retired military guy told me. He said you will know what brand to buy by the way it feels in your hand. He is very true. I was looking at the glock, PX4storm, and the XDm. The Storm and the Xdm felt great in my hand. The XDm is the one i will choose. Maybe next pistol will be storm 9mm

Maybe 3 dollars more for a box of 50 practice rounds. Unless you plan on shooting competition or thousands of rounds I don't really think its a deal breaker on ammo if you like shooting the 40 cal.

Same here.

Have to say, the feel is also the reason I went with Glock. At the end of the day, I kept going back to it and how it felt in my hand.
Personal preference

One thing to consider is the muzzle jump from a 40 cal out of a 3.8 inch barrel. My Springfield xd subcompact 9mm has a decent kick, don't know how the 40 would be for follow up shoots and accuracy in a rapid fire scenario

Yes it is a hell of a deal i would say... At the gun show it was going for $579.99 a few weeks ago in lake charles,la. The FFL dealer charges $20 bucks for hand guns and rifles. He is the cheapest i see in my area. other want to charge $50 bucks. Cant't wait to open up my Christmas Present from Me to ME...LOL!!
