Will having an interim coach in a bowl game affect each team's performance? For better or worse? I can see teams playing loose but also being disorganized.

Northern Illinois vs. Fresno State
Miami vs. Notre Dame
Pittsburg vs. Kentucky
(Florida w/ lame duck Meyer vs. Penn State)

As long as the coordinators and most of the assistants stay, I don't see where it's a big problem.

This.

Remember how well Michigan played for Lloyd Carr's swan song as head coach? I've definitely seen other schools fall flat...Cincinnati last year comes to mind (although most of that was probably due to Florida being 1 billion times better).

Can help a team. They may play looser, and the interim coach will devote his entire attention to winning the game, and installing the gameplan. Other teams will do some of that, but will also do a lot of development and practice for next year's players.

There are so many soft factors that go into bowl games. It's hard to cipher out which ones are actually relevant.

I think picking the teams that are "excited to be there" is usually a good one. Pitt went from the Fiesta to Birmingham in 2 weeks.
