Cam Newton is NOT the best college football player of all time...

...the discussion was bandied about on sportstalk radio today. He might be in the conversation but I still believe athletes like Herschel Walker, Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders, Earl Campbell, John Elway, and Eric Dickerson were better---they did it for more than one season.
I bet I'm missing at least 20 others that would be in that same conversation.

Barry Sanders was the best i ever seen, had a shitty line at Okie St,just like in Detroit and still was unstoppable...

He's played one year, he doesn't deserve to be anywhere close to this discussion.

You can't play one year and be in the "best ever" category. Just not possible. However, if he shows out in the title game he could be eligible for maybe the top 5 season ever.

If he had a full career, and put up similar stats for 3 years would you consider him the GOAT?

exactly. He's had one of the best seasons ever. You cant argue that.

I agree on Barry Sanders. Best player I've ever seen on tape against his competition. Just plain unstoppable.

Anyone who thinks Cam is the best cfb player ever should have their breathing privileges revoked.

Tony Dorsett...1976 and had broke all the D-1 rushing/TDs records. He should have won the 1975 Heisman as well, but...

no doubt, but this right here is a bad fricking season:
7.6 yards per carry
200+ yards/game
300+ yards in 4 games
2628 rush yards
3248 total yards
234 points
39 TDs
5 consecutive 200 yard rushing games
at least 2 TDs in 11 consecutive games
3 TDs in 9 games
222 yards and 5 TDs in the bowl (not included above)

he's in the top 5-10 best seasons ever, no arguing that.

Had 2 Pro Bowl linemen at Detroit! Unstoppable?!? Really? It was called 2nd and long or 3rd down. He could not catch a ball from YOU and he could not block, my 102 year old great grandmother! A running back is more than a highlight film and he was NOT a complete RB!
How many of the Olinemen that blocked for Emmitt Smith are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame? ZERO! Larry Allen will get in, but Emmitt had THREE rushing titles before Allen got there in 1991, 1992, and 1993. Oh yeah he could block and catch the ball!

Skippy...are we talking about a RB or a highlight film? Why did Barry Sanders come out on 3rd down and in the red zone? Emmitt and Walter Payton were true all around RBs, unlike Barry Sanders! Oh yeah, can we talk about heart or leaders?
