Someone once asked him about his speed, his reply...
"I had deceptive speed, I was a lot slower than I looked!"

Why isn't his name along with Tommy Cassanova and Billy Cannon on a plaque in Tiger Stadium? A great LSU football All American who was a Heisman runner up.

Jerry Stovall is a better person than he ever was a football player....and that's saying a lot...just a great human being who is sincerely concerned about others....

I was at the BOS's meeting when he was canned, I spoke with John McKiethen before the vote was held and told him that the lynching was undeserved.

Remember how Jerry took the news? He (paraphrasing) said that if they felt it was in the best for LSU then he was fine with their decision. Class act.

I was attending LSU when he was the coach, and my take on him back then was that he was a HELL of a recruiter, a HELL of a man, but coaching was not his strong point. He left Arnsparger with a damn strong football team!! Hats off to Jerry Stovall, if there were more people like him in the world we would be a lot better off.

Stovall's recruiting stockpiled talent for Arnsparger's three years and even played a part in Archer's 10-1-1 team in 1987 ..

I attended LSU with Stovall and had an ROTC class with him - really fine fellow and a good student.

As a coach he was planning for the long term - he was building good relations with high school coaches all around the state which paid dividends for subsequent coaches.

One of the greatest!

Coach Stovall was always great to me. As a walk-on w/no talent , he made sure the big dudes didn't hurt me too bad.Great man.

Stovall deserves every accolade possible. My 4 years at LSU were fall of 1980 through 1984, 'the Stovall years'.

Guy may have been too nice and decent to be a big time head coach. That's not a slap at Miles,Saban, or any of our other coaches.

Man is 100% first class. Congrats to Jerry.

He recruited a bumper crop of athletes but was not allowed to coach them which was Brodheads crap! I think if allowed to coach he would have came back with some good teams!!

I will always remember his class when he was fired.
He said, "I will go from being the Head Coach of LSU to being the number one fan of LSU".
