Ive always wondered about the following

1. Kyle Field- Been to 3 games there, not that impressive. The field looks weird with 3 decks on both sides and nothing on one end. I know it holds 85K but it didnt feel that big. Also it wasnt that loud except for all the students

2. Whats up with the thumb up as your hand gesture? i mean come on, when the Aggies scored one time while I was at a game, everyone in front of me looked at each other and gave everyone a thumbs up. wow

3. Whats up with the all male cheerleaders and why do they wear that gay white outfit? i mean you guys are just asking for it with that. I know its probably tradition but its 2010. sex sales, I dont want to buy an A&M cheerleader calender, i want a USC sweater one.

4. Why do yall always throw out anything that happened over 50 years ago because yall were a military school? so i guess your 1 NC doesnt count in the 1930s.

I hate to break it to Aggie fans but OU is UT's main rival. That is both school's biggest game of the year.

I dont mean to sound crude but I seriously have always wondered these things while watching Aggie games or being in College Station. Please elaborate for me. I actually have some good buddies that are Aggies and they are good people

I know all college football fans are dilutional to a degree, but reading Aggie messard boards is just comical. Every year you guys are going 12-0 or 11-1 and ESPN and the whole world is out to get you. I dont get it

Thanks and may the best team win in Jerryworld. Ive actually think yall are a fun team to watch this year.

My uncle is an aggie and he always said that's an old SWC gesture from when they played TCU. You'd 'gig' a frog by flipping them over with your thumb. Hence 'Gig'em Aggies' and the thumbs up.

I can't tell if you are talking about A&M fans or LSU fans. Please elaborate.

Gig em originated from a midnight yell practice in the 30's or 40's. A&M was playing TCU, and then (president or AD, don't remember which) said "Gig 'em, aggies" in reference to the fact that TCU are the horned frogs.

I shouldn't have to explain what frog gigging is. It stuck, and that's why you have gig 'em aggies today.

1. What's your question?

2. Gig'em

3. Goes back to all-male, all-military days. Yell Leaders were underclassmen, thrown down to the sidelines by upper classmen, with the responsibility of coordinating yells. They wore white to set them apart from the khaki uniforms of the other cadets.
Yell Leaders

4. I don't think anyone does. Occasionally Aggies will remind longhorns that our respective records ought to be considered, based on the historical and contextual times of war (when the majority of A&M students/cadets were gone); but I don't think anyone denies our history.

5. OU and UT are indeed huge rivals. We're fine with that. Doesn't mean we don't think many Longhorns are an embarrassment to The Great State--anathema to what our state represents.

6. We've got some fanatical "fans," that's for sure.

7. Good luck to you guys as well.

Are you kidding me? LSU wins 10 games a year so yes they can predict a MNC season. Aggie fans do it after a 6-6 season

You make it sound like this happens all the time (LSU-10 wins).

You're a good sport EKG, I hope you become a regular.

And I hope TAMU joins the SEC sooner than later. I think your AD sold you out. I'd be interested in looking at his bank records from that time.

Good post EKG. Now please tell me why TAMU hasn't changed their fight song? IMO it is really embarrassing to your school that you use Texas in it. Not trying to start anything, but just want to know. If Texas isn't really TAMU's rival, then why not break away from their sorry asses altogether and consider them just another conf foe?

Jake, the Aggie War Hymn actually has two verses--the first does not reference texas university; the second does. Decades back, students began singing the second verse twice.

The horns are Texas A&M's biggest rival; but I (and countless other Aggies) couldn't agree with you more--that it's unfortunate that only the first verse of the War Hymn is sung. Almost yearly you'll see a movement on campus (usually during the off-season or just prior to the season resuming) to "Sing BOTH verses."

----------
The starting phrase of the song, "Hullabaloo, Caneck! Caneck!" came from an Old Army Aggie yell written in 1907. Texas A&M University president Jack K. Williams jokingly defined it as Chickasaw Indian for "Beat the hell out of the University of Texas"

In 1928, Wilson wrote another verse at the request of several Aggie students who thought the original was too focused on the Aggies' rivalry with the University of Texas. This verse is now the first verse of the song but it never caught on, in part because many felt it sounded too much like an Ivy League song. To this day, the second (original) verse is usually sung twice.

The second verse opens with "Goodbye to texas university". These words were chosen since Aggies traditionally refer to their principal athletic rival, the University of Texas, as "texas university", or "t.u."

The first (unused) verse is bracketed below:

Hullabaloo, Caneck, Caneck
Hullabaloo, Caneck, Caneck
[All hail to dear old Texas A&M]
[Rally around Maroon and White]
[Good luck to dear old Texas Aggies]
[They are the boys who show the real old fight]
[That good old Aggie Spirit thrills us]
[And makes us yell and yell and yell]
[So let's fight for dear old Texas A&M]
[We're gonna beat you all to…]
[Chigaroogarem, Chigaroogarem]
[Rough, Tough, real stuff Texas A&M]

Good bye to texas university
So long to the orange and the white
Good luck to dear old Texas Aggies
They are the boys who show the real old fight
"the eyes of Texas are upon you"
That is the song they sing so well
[Sounds like hell!]

So good bye to texas university
We're gonna beat you all to…
Chigaroogarem , Chigaroogarem
Rough, Tough, Real stuff, Texas A&M

Saw varsity's horns off
Saw varsity's horns off
Saw varsity's horns off
Short! A!

Varsity's horns are sawed off
Varsity's horns are sawed off
Short! A!

You must be 20-ish I'm guessing.

Delusional fans are probably pretty equal between the two schools. I would be surprised if anyone truly disagreed with that.

On another note, while attending the LSU v. WVU game this season, the Chinese warriors or crazies that personified a 3rd unit of an old LSU team was explained to me. That’s a bad arse tradition, and you know what it could be easily poked at, much like some of ours, but I think it is bad arse and can comfortably say that. Appreciate college football and the odd ball traditions that come with it.

This is why I always enjoyed going to away games, and why I prefer college sports over pro sports.

Thanks for the history lesson about your school. Been on campus so many times since I lieved in Houston for 12 years and made my annual trip to fire school or games or something else while I was there. Was on campus in 1993 (?) when a rain soaked ground caused the bonfire to shift and break the center pole (I think). What amazed me was the people who pulled together to get that thing rebuilt. It is very unfortunate what happened years later.
