After I saw the N.O. food feuds about poboys, I set out for a good one. After researching the f&d board I decided on Acme on Perkins and here I am. Good choice?

The best you'll find in Baton Rouge.

i am one of the few people that prefer soft bread when it comes to "poboys". i know....i know some will say it's not a poboy unless it's on french bread but, frick it, i like sour dough bread.

it doesn't cut my pallet and when i bite down on it, all the shrimp don't go flying out.

to each his own.

Not sure if they use gravy or jus but I figure it will soften the bread up just fine! Just waiting on the gf to leave campus and we can get to eating.

I dont call a PB&J on white bread a po-boy for a reason.

Putting shrimp on sour dough doesnt make it a poboy you have a shrimp sandwich.

Only ever ate at the Acme in N.O. Wasn't impressed with the roast beef, too bland, everywhere.(I'm all for messy poboys but none was on the bread.). I'd much rather the shrimp/crawfish/tobasco poboy. The roast beef at Johnny's poboys was much better.

All that was N.O. though. Hopefully your roast beef experience is better.

Got one to-go once. It was ok but it had too much liquid. Yeah it's their ten napkin sandwich but I've had better roast beef with less liquid... but not in Baton Rouge of course.

Acme was pretty good, not Parkway Bakery, but pretty damn good. I grew up in Metry, so I should know.

Never get a RB to go, it will be a soggy mess in 5 minutes.

A sour dough shrimp sandwich would be pretty good, but not a poboy, don't let that stop you, why would it matter?

The RB feud was between Tracey's(Parasol's) and Parkway. I didn't see it.

Does anyone know who won?

Parkway won. I like Tracey's better. Both made my mouth water though. Those po-boys are the shite.

Not a bad choice...but...

It is too messy (imo). My personal rule for a sandwich is not allow you to eat the inside without making a mess. The bread holds it together.

That's why I like Pocorellos. Next time you get the urge go there.

They have Tracy Porter decide which was crap since he is from Port Allen of all places. But I believe he chose Parasol's but I thought that was a shrimp fued??

ETA was it Parkway? Was there another on RB and one of Shrimp?

Yes. Food Network has a new one with Mychael Simon as the host of the show.

They served it to-go with the bread/lettuce/tomato wrapped up and the roast beef in a styrofoam soup container. No soggy problems!

I had this discussion with a waitress and then the cook in North Carolina because the waitress was offended.

I saw poboy on the menu and said, "Really? That sounds great. I'd love one." It came and was on a roll. She asked how it compared to LA. I simply said it was great, but it wasn't a poboy. It was a very good sandwich, but the bread was all wrong." She looked like she was going to cry and actually got the cook.

Alright, I'll answer a few questions. The feud was between Tracey's and Parkway and Park won all three rounds independent of each other. Must be one damn good sandwich. The Acme roast beef was good, but yes messy. More messy than any poboy needs to be. Shoot me for saying it, but I've could've done better. Still, it hit the spot because I was in the mood for it. I really, really want to try those I saw from N.O. today. Those had real gravy on them.

I saw that roast beef poboy contest on last night. Both looked really good. Parkway won in all categories. N.O. natives, how does it stack up compared to the rest of the city? T.V. shows probably only show the ones who pay for marketing, not actually the best poboy...
