Destrehan athlete was a four-star on rivals, in a year where we signed a lot of lesser regarded athletes, defensive backs, and also two other DHS guys (JJ and Tim Molton). Rivals had him at 185, 4.45 40, benching 320, and squatting 485 (very impressive number there)...LSU caliber numbers in any case. What's the back story? Rivals lists LSU as a school of interest, recruited by Larry Porter.

He sure played like he had a chip on his shoulder this past weekend...

He played mostly RB iirc. They may have questioned how he projected at other positions. He was a safety, is he an olb now?

Johnson was the best player on that team, and I would still take him over the other three.

I don't know why he didn't get offered(I was not in public that year)but it's definitely a guy we missed on.The kid played great the other day.We are fine without him but we definitely would have been better off if he had went somewhere other than the SEC.

missed badly on jerico and laron byrd....those were really the two guys we needed out of st charles parish that year. damaris is a phenemonal all around player, but he never garnered any real interest from LSU.

jerico played plenty of defense in high school, but we were recruiting 6'2" safeties and jerico is 5'9".

Jerico Nelson is a 5'10 200 pound linebacker, who cares.

The swing and miss I saw on the Arky field is Knile Davis considering that he's from Houston and was at the LSU camp 2 years ago. Nelson is dime a dozen.

i would say we really missed on laron byrd. he has been hurt some this season, but he's a solid receiver and we have no junior receivers that have made a major contribution.

Because our defensive coaching staff at the time was a fvcking joke. Nelson was absolutely a definite take for anyone with a brain.

He is a LB/S. Not an exclusive LB.

A 5'10" safety on an average defense isn't a no-brainer.

You can pick 100s of defensive players that looked good against LSU's offense this year.

I thought he got a late offer at S but he wanted to play RB. Ark offered at RB but he ended up at safety anyway. No?

The way I understand it is our staff offered him as a RB, but at his request they let him practice with the defense and they decided that was where he needed to be playing. Dude's got an incredibly high football IQ.

From what I recall, this is exactly what happened.

He was going to get an offer, but his position was going to be lb/s and he was persistant in that he wanted to be a rb.

He signs with Arky to be a rb, and becomes a lb.

To hell with him.

Things may have been different if Chavis was here back then but oh well. I'm not sure if he'd be starting over anyone up to this point but we could certainly use him going forward.

I still think we'll be fine. But he's a hell of an athlete.
