Who gets #18?

I would say Ridley is the most likely candidate...

But does it have to be an offensive player?

I think Mathieu epitomizes everything that the #18 is supposed to symbolize...Toughness...leadership...smarts..etc.

Of course it may only go to Seniors...in that case it would have to be Ridley.

I think Ridley would be a good candidate. Who knows Jefferson may get the damn thing.

Not a bad choice..I like going defense for a change...and Brandon Taylor might even be a good choice depending on how he rehabs his injury. I thought he was one of our best players before going down...always in the right spot.

I would think either qb, JJ or JL would be within the spirit if the #18 tradition.

Don't give it anyone next year, just retire it for the 2011 season.

Give Jefferson #1 and Lee #8

It's not a Senior thing, Hester had it his whole career and Dickson got it as a JR. I don't think Tyrann has really earned it yet, even though he has played very well, he is still a frosh nickel back. I think it may go to Baker or Ridley. Shep is another option.

It didn't say it in that article, but it actually started when Mauck gave it to Hester when he left LSU. I read about it in 07.

Ya..i think that's right. It definately wasnt something started by the fans or whatever the other poster was trying to say.

It's kind of nice to have a tradition started that you can look back 30 or 40 years and remember how it began...

Agreed.

And as to who should get it next if Murphy isn't granted another year, it should be Ridley. He plays hard, fast and doesn't stop until the play is over. A clear leader and game changer.
Then after that, maybe Ridley gives it to TM who will be the next great corner for LSU.

He's done more this year than Dickson ever did.

I would say Jarrett Lee

After all he has been through and the leadership he has shown.

No question I would say Lee.

If the award is based mostly on effort and attitude towards the team concept, I would give it to Josh Downs.
