It is generally accepted amongst the Miles faithful that Les is a good to great coach, the support for which is largely based upon his record at LSU, which by my count, now stands at an impressive 60-16 (.7895 winning percentage). Les just wins, let's not worry with how he does it. This has been the consensus on the Rant the last few weeks.

Why then is Crowton not afforded the same credit, based upon the same analysis? Gary's record at LSU now stands at an almost as impressive 38-12 (.7600 winning percentage), meaning that 76% of the time, Crowton's offense outscores the opposition's offene. Isn't his job to outscore the other team. Why aren't his results considered good enough, when they aren't substantially different than Miles' results. I don't get it.

Gary is responsible for the offense, not the whole team.

by your metric, if we win a game 2-0, it's good enough for Crowton to keep his job.

Well LSU's offense has been ranked about 100-112th in the nation with top 5 talent the last 2 years..

When the QB is feeling it and Crowton is feeling it, he can be very good...Just haven't see it very much the last 3 seasons

1) Look at his career winning percentage. It isn't great.

2) Miles gets credit because he is evaluated on the entire team. Crowton has no say in the defense. Crowton's offenses have been horrendous at LSU after 2007.

Having your offense outscore the opponent's offense requires two components: your offense to get your points up and your defense to keep the opponent's points down. Crowton is only in charge of one of those things, and the part he is in charge of isn't why we're winning.

You would have a better point if the majority of those games were not won because of our defense.

Hell how many games this year did our Defense and Special Teams outscore our own Offense?

It's not my metric, I'm simply asking the question. If you read my post history, I'm not a results only guy. I'm more process oriented. I'm trying to get a better understanding of how the results only guys think. I want Crowton gone, just like the next guy.

I just find it interesting that the Miles supporters have no problem blaming Crowton for everything and Miles for very little. I don't get it.

seriously?

Miles controls the whole program which encompasses about 100 different aspects. Crowton is in charge of one thing -- the offense. Which, for most of the last two seasons, has been an abomination.

Because most of the time we win in spite of Crowton, not because of him. Last week was an exception. Not to mention Crowton took one of the best offenses in LSU history, and quickly turned it into one of the worst in LSU history.

Are you omitting extra points for us but counting them for the other team?

edit: Wait, what the hell is your logic behind those #s?

Well, because Miles is responsible for the whole team, Offense Defense and ST.........2 of the 3 are doing well. One of those (defense) was horrific 2 years ago. Miles has shown th eability to make the correct decisions to turn around a strugling unit. He deserves a chance to do so with the Offense. 11-1 buys him even more chances.

Recent appearances are that he was correct on the QB situation also. Another one that most of us were dead wrong about. Crowton might be a similar situation.

I omitted all scoring by special teams and defense.

Why would I compare the offense to the other teams offense as well? Thats not what decides games.

Are you not counting FGs as offensive points?

quote:

LSU 6 Tenn 14

Offense scored all 16 points.

quote:

LSU 24 Fla 29

Offense scored all 33 points

quote:

LSU 12 Auburn 24

Offense scored all 21 points

quote:

LSU 12 Alabama 21

Offense scored all 24 points

quote:

LSU 30 Ole Miss 36

Offense scored all 43 points.

So, Sid, are you still reserving judgement on Crowton?

If anyone can show that Crowton is directly responsible for Jasper's kicking I will add XPs and FGs to the list.

Im just showing the reason a person over one section of the team does not get to share the record of the whole team.

I'd like to see him gone, yesterday. I think there is a reasonable chance he is not gone at all though.
