on running plays up the middle instead of handing it off?

The pitches seem to stutter the momentum of our running backs just before they hit the line of scrimmage. It is also taking an unnecessary risk of fumbling, IMO.

The short toss has been effective all season.

I think it gives the RB more options as he approaches the LOS and, prior to the snap, gives the defense a look that the play may go wide

I agree...the pitch is ok at times, but I don't understand why you take a 3rd and 1 and throw the ball 5 yards backwards, especially when the play is designed to go up the middle. I can understand on toss sweeps.

It's one of our bread and butter plays, and as the previous poster said it gives the rb options of going inside or outside.
However, yesterday ole miss shut it down and we kep trying to run it. I was about to pull my hair out in the stadium yesterday. With the amount of times we ran it in short yardage situations, I could not believe we did not run anything off of it.

It gives our QBs a better chance to block.

But really I saw JJ do it twice in the game and both QB's did it during warm ups. AFter they pitch the ball they turn around and half arse pick up the guy on the weak side
