Does a 10 win season this year prove that the "only" reason LSU has suffered in the past two years was due to kicking our upper classman quarterback off the team? I sure do.

I know there are plenty of other issues that have surfaced with the team (defense '08, offense '09), but I contend that our QB situation would have masked a lot of it.

I am definitely a fan of Les Miles and to me, this is part of the proof. Clean program and quality players.

Agree-as long as he's here-we will have a top-notch team and a clean program!!!

You don't think RP would have changed that?

People don't like to look back in the past, and I'm very critical of Miles, but I do agree.

In 2008, I think you could say LSU beats:

Georgia
Alabama
Ole Miss

That means they go to SECCG, but still lose to Florida, so they finish 11-2 with two losses to the national champion. Pretty fantastic considering the defensive woes. Finishing 11-2, maybe they don't change DCs though. Maybe.

In 2009, that means, they beat

Florida
Alabama
Ole Miss
Arkansas

They beat Florida again in SECCG, but I think that LSU team, with an evolving defense under Chavis loses to Texas in NCG to finish 13-1.

You can't deny that this is a huge difference. It makes Bama into a team that is getting close, but not yet there.

It makes Miles 68-10.

So, it took a lot of for Miles to do that, especially with no one to back him up. But I don't think RP's antic were really destroying the team, probably more of a matter of principle -- like frick, we've gone through this 100 times...

Looking at the other SEC coaches, it's interesting

The OP is referring to the past two seasons, not this year.

But, this would be the year we break in a new QB if Perilloux did not get kicked off the team. I would bet that '08 is a pretty good season with him on the team, even with the defensive issues. '09 would have been awesome with a potent offense and the new Chavis D. Thus, a "drop off" this year in offense could be expected and we'd still get 10 wins. All of this is hypothetical, of course, so who really knows.

Ditto. That's exactly what I was thinking when I posted. This season validated my hopes of a restored LSU program after a couple of bad years due to Miles doing the right thing. I can live with that. And it's hard to argue against that point with the Bammers and Barners that I have to live with here in Birmingham.

LSU wasn't exactly suffering the last two years. A lot of teams would have loved to have had those W-L records.

True. But I think we would have been part of a dynasty with double digit wins and Bama never quite gets their big break. College football has a different face with no drop off from LSU. Its fun to dream of what might have been but I can also live in the now and enjoy what we have going.
