Sorry, but Germans. He does have a way with the salesmanship. He's just doing media recruiting now. He's good at recruiting.

This is great. When others do this it's whining and beiang a pu**. When Miles does it it's quite a different story.

No, it's just that when Miles does it he looks like a man. When Petie Carroll does it well.....
ETA: That wasn't a facemask Tangerine. Very misleading photo.

That is because in this case, it is the fricking truth - the SEC is the best conference this year and the SEC West is the too-awesome-for-words Division.
When others do it, it doesn't have the weight and proven nature that an SEC team does (seriously 4/4 in a row and 6/12 Titles!).
Do you really think it makes sense to compare the SEC with the WAC/MAC et al?
And before anyone brings it up - yes in any given game (ala BBall) any team can beat another (read TCU/Boise vs anyone else) - but not week in, week out with the SEC strength or for that matter even the Pac 10 this year.
It is easier to qualify from a weak arse SOS and have the media slobber all over your knob but still doesn't carry any weight.

What bowl is Southern Cal going to this fall, Nimrod ?
Posted on 11/16/10 at 7:34 am to I-59 Tiger
It needs to be SEC best non cheating team against best whoever wants to try and beat the SEC's best. If say Boise State/TCU/Oregon play in the NC against a non SEC team wouldn't it be a hollow win not playing an SEC team from the strongest conference in college football. With what a undefeated or 1 or 2 loss SEC teams goes through prepares them for playing the best football. Unless the sports media wants to get around this.

Miles doesn't whine after the fact.
He sets up a logical scenario well ahead, IN CASE the dominos fall right to position LSU for serious consideration.
He gets out early and in front.
In 2007, Miles' mantra was "this LSU team is undefeated in regulation."
And in the end, when all dominos fell, LSU jumped from #7 to #2. The fact that Les had already put that poignant bug in the pollsters' ears helped us get the serious consideration we needed to edge out Okie, GA, USC and others.
Les came up with a simple, dynamite argument for LSU, and he put it out their before the situation even arose. The Mad Hatter thinks two or three moves ahead. He just outsmarted all those other "brilliant" coaches who could only cry in their milk at the end.
This year, if we win out, and if Aubie stumbles or gets the ax from the NCAA, Les want LSU to get serious consideration as the best SEC team. Without saying it, this is Les' way of defending the top SEC team against non-AQers with grossly inferior schedules.
No doubt, the odds are against us. But they were even more against us in 2007.
Les is just getting out front and reminding the voters, just in case it comes down to a decision between LSU and others, that an 11-1 SEC team should get very serious consideration and MAY be more deserving than an undefeated non-AQer or a 1-loss team from a different AQ conference.
If one of LSU's long-shot scenarios occur at the end (big if) Les' argument may make the difference to get us into the dance, just as it did in 2007, IMHO.
The Hat is a very smart poker player, and he knows how to leave as little to chance as possible.

Unbeaten against eligible teams
(We should set this up just in case Auburn goes down in time)

unbeaten against teams not using players they know are not going to have been eligible after the NCAA bumbles around to getting the facts investigated.

I don't want to hear that from Miles. Too long a sentence man! But yeah, something like that

A coach is supposed to lobby for his team, so I have no problem with this. I'm just not sure he's actually right. I do have a problem when sportswriters just ape a narrative out of laziness, even if it helps LSU.
I do have a conceptual problem with a non conference champ going to the BCS title game, though I know the rules do not prevent it, and it has happened before. If the BCS argument is "every week matters" then, well, we lost the one thing we had total control over: winning the SEC title.

Not sure what this thread has to do with USC though. Nice try.

This. I promise you that Les could give a frick less if it comes down to a tight decision between Oregon, Auburn, TCU, and Boise. He's lobbying for his own team and frankly, I don't understand how this is news.
