I went to the LSU Purple vs. Gold baseball scrimmage today, and the new bats seems terrible. I remember Maineiri saying something about it earlier in the offseason. But everything that was hit with these new bats sounded the way it would sound if you hit it off the end of the bat or off the handle on the old bats. And a few balls seemed to be squared up pretty good and just went nowhere.

they should just move to wood if they are going to do this.

It would become too expensive and too dangerous. The NCAA continually does studies to determine the optimal level of value and production for these bats while overwhelmingly erring on the side of safety.

I understand the point behind it but they went a little too far with the safety issue and it is going to affect the way the game is played. Some people will love it though. In the words of one poster on this site "why should the pitcher be in more danger than the right fielder?", which is really quite mind blowing when you think about it.

as the father of a college pitcher (former), i most definately support this change and have been advocating it for awhile. knowlegable baseball fans don't have to have gorilla ball to love the game. now, since the sport needs lots of home runs to attract fans that don't understand or appreciate the rest of the game, simply move the fences in a little. lots of ways to increase scoring, too. like shrinking the strike zone. nevertheless, this change will benefit teams with pitching and defense. enjoy the emphasis on other skill sets, like speed, stolen bases, outfielder assists sacrifice bunting and other aspects of the game that will now become more important. college pitching, overall, is not good enough for a lot of 2-1 games.

This would take away a lot of the singles and doubles because the outfielders will have less ground to cover.....

Also, the strike zone can't be much smaller than it already is these days.... Pitchers don't get pitches at the belt anymore called strikes... They can't make the zone a 8x8 box......

The one upside, is LSU's pitching hasn't been good lately, so this might even us up with other teams pitching wise. And we got some hitters coming back. But I still hate the bat change.

Pros use them and college players are semi-pro anyway. It will help them in the long run. I have my high school son use wood at bp all the time. inproves their strike zone and bat speed.

I get that, but I meant that you obviously don't understand the cost difference

I mis-spoke your right on the Ash wood. Don't talk to me about cost. TAF and all these other athletic departments are making millions and I'm sure some bat company would love to see their bats being used in the College WS by an elite program like LSU. So the cost argument is dead. IMO

The team with the best "small ball" will when it all!
