no coach has everything you want

les miles has a lot of strong points. on the field coaching and making adjustments are not 2 of them.
i mean, what would the fan base do with a great coach who couldn't recruit? we would not get the results we wanted.
there is always one thing that i think is important, considering your coach does have many strong points in his favor - that is, do his players play hard for him, all the time? not do they like him a lot, but are they giving the big-time effort every week for 4 quarters? i could give a damn about whether he's a "players" coach.
overall, i think you would have to agree that they do. until they stop, i think you have to keep him until at least his contract runs out.
i mean, what would the fan base do with a great coach who couldn't recruit? we would not get the results we wanted.

I want a head coach who runs a clean program and can recruit. He should hire coordinators that develop talent and gameplan well, and he should be able to organize and run the team while in the game.

As a HC, if you can't coach in-game and make half-time adjustments, find AC's who can and let them do their thing.

I disagree.
What I want in a Coach at LSU is a fiery competitor, someone who holds his players accountable. Someone who is a disciplinarian. Someone who is really good at one thing either defense or offense if not both. Someone who is a great recruiter. Someone who's teams display organization, attention to detail and discipline when they play the game. Someone who's teams MOST of the time don't beat themselves and are visibly seen on the field to be well coached and organized.
Nick Saban embodied this, that's why (as a football coach) I have a ton of respect for him. I believe John Gruden would be the same as above along with a ton of other coaches. Les Miles is not all of what I listed. Thanks

This is where Miles falls off. After the last 2 years there is no good reason why STud and Crouton should have had job at LSU this year. IMO

Um, those are sort of important for a coach wouldnt you say?
Dont forget how much focus is on technique under Miles. Just ask Flynn, Holiday and the rest who realize they are years behind in such coaching when they hit the pro camps.

LSU as a school gets talent in a talented rich state. And obviously it is extremely close to the most talented rich state TEXAS, which makes it easy for players and their family. Les i'm sure has a little bit to do with it, but I don't think it's much. The 2007 championship under him helps and I will give him that, and so does the 2003 under SABAN. Those championships get LSU's name in the media "ESPN" which gets the high school players attention. NOW negative information and questioning of coaching decisions nationally hurts us. Honestly answer me this. If you had a son that had a chance for a pro career, would you want him to be coached and I mean coached not befriended by LES?? I'm not talking about if you would want him to play at LSU, but to be coached by LES and or CROWTON if he is on the offesive side of the ball. ? Please anwer seriously.

all right, guys, them name some football coaches who have it all. i can't name any. even saint nick, who i respect and wish we had, doesn't have it all.
and stats are no indication of whether the team is playing hard or not. not always.
i agree with all of you that i wish miles didn't have some of the glaring deficiencies that he has, but looking at the big picture, who would you get that doesn't?
as for recruiting, we have had lots of coaches who didn't recruit well. no one comes close to saban and miles. they were/are consistent top 5 classes.
dinardo recruited a lot of top guys, but he didn't always recruit enough guys for different positions.
you can find some coaches that we would agree were better than miles. frankly, there aren't that many. their faults would be different and maybe not as embarrassing.
anyway, i'm like you - I can name some coaches i would trade him for. but i admit there aren't that many. and i can see that without a meltdown in the win-loss column he's here for the duration of his K.

AT LSU, IN THE SEC, IF WE HAVE A GOOD COACH, LSU WILL RECRUIT ITSELF.

You nailed it. If we had a coach like that, with the talent the last three years teams have had, we would have 2 or 3 more SECC and most likely another BCSNC

all right. got two names. Saban and Gruden. both good choices. i think i would love to have either of these guys. but remember, they are not perfect. it's just their deficiencies would be more comfortable to live with. and i agree with that.
but there aren't a whole lot of them out there. saban we'll never get back. will gruden be available in 3 years?
based on what i have heard, i would let my son play for les. i might have second thoughts if he was a quarterback.
