Is anyone familiar with Crowton's contract? When does it end? If fired at the end of the season what would we have to pay? He makes $469,917 a year.

It's been said (by the Rant so TIFWIW) that:
-we retained the Wizzerd after the 2009 season because the buy out was too expensive
-his contract ends after this year.

Looking for some clarity, and if there is one place to get facts, I know I can turn to the Tiger Rant.

Last night on Tiger Talk, Scike said his K was up at the end of this year.

After the national championship, all assistants including Crowton got 3-year contracts.

it ends after this year. Crowton is a goner, and that is why Miles is personally handling the recruitment of Mettenberger.

All that said, Gary Crowton is a class guy and has a great offensive mind, and I wish him the best. Things just went downhill here on the offensive side of the ball after the RP situation.

Miles doesn't tip his hand, so there is no point in discussing it. We will know when we know.

supposedly Crowton's personality is a unique mix of arrogance and non-confrontation so he can't be happy with the way things have turned out from his end either

in other words he thinks highly of himself but has a bit of a problem standing up for himself and it is obvious that Miles walks right over him. This coupled with embarassing yourself and your HC at the end of games three times in the last two years means enough is enough for GC in Tiger Town

I know this has all been hashed over before, but I just can't let that comment go by.

Crowton's play calling is abysmal. He runs out of running formations and passes out of passing formations - no variation - to a fault. He even has blocking wide receivers and a blocking tight that he sends in when a run is called. Does he think the other coaches in the SEC don't pick up on that? (this ain't the WAC). The most pathetic thing I saw all season was us going on 4th and short and Crowton going into the victory formation - and then running a qb sneak. From the formation, the whole world knew it was going to be a sneak. Why would anyone with a brain do that?

He is so pathological in his attempts to run differing types of plays that he becomes predictable. If he runs on first down he passes on second. If he passes on first down, most times he runs on second (almost irregardless of the first down play result).

His play calling never adapts or adjusts to the game situation or game experience. Against Aub, he had a first down vertical pass play called and Aub got called for offsides. Now it's 1st and 5, but Crowton doesn't change the play call, even though the circumstance had changed.

And, to beat a dead horse, but he continues to call plays that don't work and won't adapt to his players' abilities, the pathetic option play being only the most frequent example of many such failures, and his stubborn refusal to use Ridley more being another (how many times has Ridley rushed the ball twice in a row? - never - even if he gets 6 yards on 1st down).

Last thing. How many times this year have we run a screen pass? We're dying to get the ball to our "playmakers" with a qb that has trouble with accuracy, and we haven't run a screen pass all season. How about a middle screen against the Auburn D line that was in our backfield all game. Hell, if it doesn't work, throw it away. But try it at least once.

Saying Crowton is a great offensive mind -- I'm sorry, that is just absurd.

Remember when we used to affectionately call him the Wizard? He has proven that he is a wizard. Just look at how he made our offense disappear.

God i was telling this to everyone i know. If the D tackles and D ends are all crashing into your back field have the QB draw them a little further back and dump off the ball to ridley/ford/ware on a screen for an easy pick up of 6-10 yards. Great point

I love how people on the Rant pretend to know what the consensus is regarding coaches. The only people who really know what is going on are The coaches. That is fact.

"we retained the Wizzerd after the 2009 season because the buy out was too expensive"

By this logic Les Miles will never be bought out.
