My brother takes his wife to this great little house up on Lake D'Arbonne that rents by the week. Right on the water. Just throw your hook out the back door and Voila! Breakfast.

Bring her to T Frer's in Laffy. B and B built in like 1790. Its haunted just like the rest of em (ghosts always increases vacancy)

Make too much noise at night and you're sure to get a visit!

If you want to go to one of these places that has good restaurants/bars/shops pretty nearby, Fairhope AL and old town Covington is a good location.
The fairhope inn or one of the places on the Mobil Bay would be nice.

In old town Covington, the Blue Willow B&B is nice. I park my car on a Friday and don't start it again until ready to head home on a Sunday. Hot tub in front of the room, bike rental nearby, and some good restaurants, etc within easy walking distance.

No, those ended 10 or more years ago.

Looks like we could solve Amelie's death and give her peace...the butler pushed her into the well.

I love staying in the cottages at Butler-Greenwood in St. F.

LINK

There's no real breakfast, there, though and the restaurants are limited, though I enjoy the Oxbow. I prefer The Cook's Cottage, The Old Kitchen, The Tree House or Chase's Cottage out of all the cottages, there.

I also like staying at Oak Alley in the cottages. You can have breakfast delivered in the mornings, I believe. You can eat at Houmas House one night.

Might be too late to find something in Natchitoches, but there are plenty of neat B&B's there and on the weekends in Dec, they do a smaller rendition of the big fireworks that they do on the night of the Christmas festival.

If you're willing to fly, the Inn at Little Washington is the ultimate for me. I do realize, however, that I'm not invited.

wow...butler looks real nice.
Little Washington is very nice but for those rates I would have to go in the fall when the leaves are turning....and I've saved up a little more

I've been to the Inn in the Fall and it's lovely. The restaurant is outstanding. There's nowhere else to go for dining around there, I don't believe, but you wouldn't want to.

I really do love Butler. If you want to cook in, Chase's Cottage has a full kitchen. Some of the others do as well. I'm not positive about the cooking supplies. The setting is neat and there are plantations to see in the area if you enjoy that. She gets booked up pretty early, though, around the holidays, so I'd check it out immediately. You can cancel up to a certain point at no charge, if I recall correctly.

The owner is an interesting character. She was nearly murdered on site by her then husband, the former warden of Angola. She wrote a book about it, so before you ever go there, get the book and read it. It's a quick read called "Weep for the Living" by Anne Butler.

You could always stay one night in the Myrtles and then head for Butler.

There are some nice cottages at Loyd Hall in Cheneyville. It's not exactly located near a mecca city or fine restaurants, though. The accommodations are really nice.

I think it's probably too late to get into one in Natchitoches, though you could try. People book those up to a year in advance for the Christmas season. It's a terrific place to go at that time, for future reference. The ambiance is wonderful around the entire city.

The problem is that great food is difficult to find.

Everyone is doing a great job and I am looking at each suggestion....right now the GF is leaning towards Laffayette....the ghost and the Acadian Village(for the Christmas lights)....but keep the suggestion comming....we are far from decided....by the way I like the Fairhope suggestion and the St. Francisville suggestions but the GF is really against me playing golf on her birthday....women

Is the course in St. F even reopened? I can't recall.

There are lots of options out there for places to stay. The problem is that the food offerings in many of those places are limited.
