? about Chase Bank promotion

I got a gift card for $100 from Chase that can be redeemed if I open a second checking account.
What's the catch?
And why would one need a second checking account?
I'm not gonna ask them because I'm not confident I'll get the whole story.
TIA.

if I open a second checking account.
I have not seen this current promotion, but I received a letter like that a couple of years ago. It specifically said for "new" customers in the fine print. I already had a checking account with them at that time.
If you are correct and the promotion is for a second checking account, then I can't answer your question why you would need a second checking account.

The wife opened a new money market account with Chase. They "gave" her $125 but the catch was she had to deposit $5,000 and not go below that for 6 months. Still a better return than the MM account the $5000 was in.

I checked it again. Right at the top in all caps:
"...WHEN YOU OPEN A SECOND CHECKING ACCOUNT."
I don't know anyone who has two checking accounts with the same bank. Unless it's a husband and wife with different accounts. But ours is joint.

I have three with one bank.......
- one for a small nonprofit I run
- one for personal
- one for personal but its high interest.
They advertise that all over denver $100 if you open an account. I can't imagine it being worthwhile, they have to have catches. I will game coupons but if I have to give out my SS number, I am ultra conservative.

I stand corrected.
I'm with you, other than a spouse's account or perhaps a separate small business account, this does not seem like a popular service for most people.

I know people that set one up for their mortgage to auto-pay from. They put x$ per week into the account and don't have to worry about balancing a checkbook around the mortgage and at the end of the year you end up with some extra that you can put towards principle, taxes etc. Some banks will give you better % on the loan if auto-payment is used.

one...I don't have a business
two, three...Why wouldn't you just use the higher interest?

you have to pay per check. Not that we write that many but it works out better for us.
The lady at the bank strongly recommended it when we came in to open a safety deposit. It enabled us to avoid fees but we do too many transactions for it all to be there.

I think I got an offer like this not too long ago from Chase, and I think you have to link a direct deposit to the account, which I don't have since I'm self employed.

Yes, it does require direct deposit. But I already do that with my checking account. No change.

I'd guess that the thought process is something like this: "If we can get them to open a second checking account, then they are all the more entrenched in a relationship with us, and ultimately less likely switch banks in the long run."

The more hooks they have in you, the less likely you are to leave.
Checking, savings, bill pay, CDs, merchant services (if you are a business customer), etc.

Don't know about the Chase offer but Capital One recently ran an offer to give away $200 for opening a rewards checking account. Only stipulation was you had to link a direct deposit to the account. I have the abilty to split my direct deposit to multiple( up to 4 accounts ) at work. I put $100 per pay period in the Cap 1 account. 30 days after signing up they added $200 to my checking account. No fees, nothing. Why not. Its a free $200. I use it as a spare savings account.

Wasnt it someone on here that said they signed up for one of those accounts not knowing that their wife had a charge off to that bank that he didnt know about and they took that money from him when he opened the account?
