I tried to go walking with current dog (in my avatar which I just got today) tonight and it was a disaster. We got 4 houses down and he decided he didn't want to walk anymore. And he fought me the whole way with his leash for that 4 house distance.

yup, that's what my dog did for about the first year. He would just lay down in the middle of the street or someone's yard after about two houses. Now days, he will walk but only from mailbox to mailbox and if I try to pull him, he will just lay down.

Congrats to all of you who are doing great with this.
I had a modest goal this week of just not drinking alcohol and eating just a little better, especially at dinner.
Haven't had any alcohol since last Saturday since I started taking anti-biotics. I usually have 2 or 3 dark beers or a glass or two of red wine every night.
Stepped on the scale this morning and it felt awesome to see I had lost 3 pounds this week.
Haven't wanted to exercise this week to make sure that I get well, but next week it is on. Plan to walk or jog a mile at least 5 days next week.

I haven't had a sip since last Thursday. Longest stretch for me in probably a year or more. Gonna have a glass or two of scotch tonight though.

Weighed in at 242 this morning. So down 2 pounds since last friday

Gotta watch that sodium. It can demoralize you to have a few good days but you ate way too much sodium so you retain more water and have no loss.

Liquor is better than beer because it has no carbs. Before adding mixers I don't think there is much of a difference

I am shocked at how much sodium it had!

Most fast food has anywhere from 750 to 1500 mgs of sodium. Same for restaurants. In fact restaurants can run you much higher since the side dishes for the meal are also loaded.

Just look at some chain restaurant nutritional information and it will shock you how much sodium some of the supposedly healthy dishes have.

I'm eating at BR Prime tonight. What do you think would be the healthiest thing to eat in terms of low sodium and calories?

Well for the starter, the best thing is the mixed greens salad with vinaigrette although I would have a tough time passing up the spinach salad.

The smaller meat meals would be good but no ordering the sauces or compound butters.

The chops or chicken are also good as long as they don't smother them with sauces.

Drink cold water to burn calories?

Someone had posted on the earlier diet thread that since your body had to burn calories to raise the temperature of cold liquids to core temperature, you could lose weight by drinking cold water. Hmmm, I know that is true, but how much and how cold, I had a hard time believing that it could be effective weight loss strategy or we'd all be skinny. So I had to do the calculation.

Using this standard definition: A food calorie approximates the energy needed to increase the temperature of 1 kilogram of water by 1 °C.

If you drink 16 oz of 40F water you will burn .923 calories to raise it to body temperature. You will burn more calories than that walking back & forth to the bathroom getting rid of all that water you drank.

Just call me the TD food board mythbuster.

I got some nuggets from Chick-fila last year. Thought I was biting into a piece of salt. Never again.

I didn't say it was some miracle weight loss supplement.

This article begs to differ with you. Drinking 8 glasses of cold water a day can burn 70 calories a day. Running a mile only burns 100.

LINK

I'm not Mr. Wizard so I have no idea if true, but there are lots of web sites that say it works.

If true, that is 7.3 pounds a year doing nothing more than drinking ice cold water.
