No. They usually go to a lower tier bowl because of the loss.

the loser of the SEC Championship usually gets a raw deal.....oftentimes sent to a lower tier bowl game than teams they beat in their own division

No. Only the SEC Champ is guarenteed a spot in the Sugar. Of course the last 4 years the SEC has been involved in the BCS Title game. When LSU played Notre Dame it was due to Florida playing in the title game and LSU didn't make the SEC Championship that year.

No.. A prime example is Arky losing in the SECCG to Florida a few years back, and LSU going to the Sugar to destroy Notre Dame.

If the SEC champion is playing in the BCS championship then the Sugar Bowl selection committee reserves the right to choose the highest ranked SEC team. Doesn't have to be the SEC number 2.

About as automatic as the winner of the Pac-10 going to the rose bowl and the ACC winner with 4-5 loses going to the Orange Bowl

Yes.

And the two teams with the most losses go to the BCS Championship Game.

A bowl actually get an at-large bid to replace a championship game participant. Sugar Bowl would be stupid NOT to pick an SEC team.

This is why college football (Div 1) has the WORST postseason of any sport. You have a great regular season, followed by essentially meaningless exhibition games whose main purpose is to generate money for that city. Also, half of the teams get to play in the D-1 postseason.
