It appears our major weakness on defense is our outside linebackers. Our Shanle and Dunbar are serviceable at best. Our lack of speed at this posistion showed all game and especially on the last drive by San Francisco. My only other gripe is why in the hell would they attempt to put Harper in pass coverage again? He has no ball skills and it appears he has never been taught to look back for the ball when in coverage. We saw this two years ago against Chicago and we saw it again last night in the city the bay.

but I would rather win ugly, than loose pretty like the 49er's did last night. Now we have to get ready for a better passer Matt Ryan and more physical runner in Michael Turner.

Shanle is a good linebacker. "Serviceable at best" is an insult to what he has done for the saints the last few years.

Shanle has always been the weaklink in our linebacking corp for the past four years. He is a liability when asked to cover a back or tight end. Teams try and isoloate him in pass coverage on third down plays. On a couple of the long runs by Gore last night he missed tackles that would have been for no gain or a loss on the play.

Granted this year Shanle is a better linbacker than both Dunbar and Mitchel but that is not saying a lot. Linebacker was our greatest need of improvement last year and the Saints did not address it. Loosing Casilla's was a huge loss for speed at the position.

Our defense is about what it was last year. Soft agianst the run and lives off of turnovers. What else is to be expected? The Saints didn't really do anything to shore up the front 7 this past offseason.

Mitchell looks the best out of the 3 (he, Shanle, Dunbar). Dunbar is just another body at the line that does absolutely nothing and Shanle looks like he is lugging a piano on his back this season. It looks like Shanle tries to get blocked on his blitzes.

Shanle is a solid players, but "serviceable" is a good description for him

He's a huge liability in coverage and in the open field in general

that's why he led the team in tackles in the postseason

He's hardly ever in on 3rd down. How many OLB are truly lockdown in coverage?

Not even saying he did miss these, but Gore is a top 3 back in the league.

No, he doesn't

Vilma is 100X better in coverage...after Shiancoe last week, no way Shanle was getting matched up with Davis last night

I still like the idea of our base defense being nickel when Sharper comes back.
