Me. The best way to do it is to just do it yourself. You create a bond and earn the dogs trust. Once you have that you could send them through a ring of fire for a bird. Time is the only issue with training a dog, don't cost too much, it ain't hard, it's just something you have to do in little chunks and do it alot. I'll never regret doing it myself.

come on wick.. you know who the best GSP trainer around is.....

retrievers....

Mark Smith is the best.... Bart is a good second - need to determine if your trainer is training for tests, trials or hunts.

if someone does not have a lot of exp. with pointers - don't send your dog there - they are not labs, goldens but... are a lot like chessies... you have to convince them - the way you want it done is right - not their way - sometimes you have to compromise.

The house is turning into a wildlife zoo. We have a doe that has started feeding in the lot next to us at night, 30' from my second story bedroom/balcony.

The gar fish are still stacked, there are solid numbers of catfish and the sac a lait number between 30-50 on a falling river. Fish numbers are coming back after the Gustov kill.

Took these last night. The gar are in the light, the sac a lait on the outer ring and the catfish down below.

Yes I have been in HRC and AKC for the last 12 years. I am a member of Pontchartrain and have been in charge of the UKC test for a few of those years. I am glad to see Bayou getting going again. My younger dog ran Finished at the last Bayou test, but I wasn't able to make it due to family issues.

Mark Smith Hands down best trainer in the state, however he specializes in field trials and for the guy just wanting a hunting dog that is over the top. However there is no better dog trainer in Louisiana.

Trained my Yellow Lab (Buckshot) and was extremely satisfied. Spends a large amount of time "teaching" the dog how to "Learn" and think. Great person as well.

Good Luck

I had two dogs trained by Bart Posey and both have turned out great. Have also had other family members that have had their dogs trained by Bart and their dogs were also good dogs. My last dog I bought from him was a great pet and great hunting dog.

I am planning on getting a dog in the next 6 months but I think I am going to choose to get it trained by a trainer. I know a lot about training but it takes a lot of time and the trainers are also better equipped to do the job. There are a lot of different personalities with dogs and a good trainer knows exactly what to do training wise with those personalities. A trainer has trained so many dogs that it makes it easier to figure out the dog. Just my opinion though.
