I thought I would pass this on. A guy from Athens posted this on TSD.
I live in Athens AL and just saw Stephen Rivers play tonight. He had 2 passing TD's and ran for another. If he had a decent OL and better receivers he would put up huge numbers. There were at least three drops, one of which he threaded the needle between two db's and hit his WR in the numbers about 40 yards down the field. He also ran for his life most of the time he went back to pass which resulted in a couple of fumbles on his part. He is a little bigger than last year but still looks really skinny. He also was a head taller than any other player on either team.
Anyway, I know college football fans like to keep up with the players who commit to their school and thought you might like a first hand account of Rivers.

BUt how are people supposed to bitch now?
Weight will come with maturity, no basketball, and a good workout program in the offseason.

This is why judging just based off of stats is stupid. If the NFL did that, Case Keenum would be the #1 pick overall.
Rivers is in the mold to be a great quarterback. It sucks that he has to run for his life, but with the o-line he is going to have at LSU, he will have plenty of time

The thing about the bad o-line is that I think it has helped Rivers learn how to avoid the rush and move around in the pocket. If you watch his film, you'll see that he moves around pretty good and keeps his eyes downfield.

Thanks for the update, but I'm going to have to wait for Elleshoe to read the boxscore and let us know if he's any good yet.

Duckie, man you really hit the nail on the head. It's like people want to see something bad in rivers because for some reason they think that the guys from Louisiana are better. I agree with another poster that said his bad line might actually be a good thing in the long run because it develops a timer in his head. Either way, I am excited to see this kid next year.

I for one THANK YOU for telling us something about a future player. I live in Tupelo,Ms now, not La.. and looked at a map to see how close I am to Rivers to drive over to see him. I will go over once this year. If I do I'll try to meet you . E-mail me at pdginn@bellsouth.net for a good game to go see. Thanks for telling us recruiting news.

I really like Rivers, but most of my fellow 'Bama fans didn't agree with me on his talent. It always sucks to see a good one get out of the state of Alabama. I like Phillip Ely, but Alabama missed on one Rivers and I don't want to have those "what could have been" thoughts again.
