Saints pursuing trade for OLB

It is believed Saints officials are still trying to upgrade their roster at outside linebacker via a trade and using one of their own players as trade bait, league sources told NewOrleans.com on Friday.
I think that we can assume that the player being used as trade bait is likely a wide receiver.

Now that...is interesting...
Moore?
Can't be AA. He hasn't proven himself in any substantive way that would warrant giving up a LB who would have any impact.

If it's a wide receiver (and I've got to think that it is), then Meachem is the most likely candidate, because he is the one that Arrington's skills best replace.

It would be Moore. Meachem is too valuable running down the middle of the field. My question is why didn't we make a better trade with Jamal Brown?

Yeah Meachem, unfortunately, is the one WR that could return an above average OLB in a trade...excluding Colston and Henderson. Plus, he saw a lot of action that last preseason game. Maybe it was to showcase him for a trade?

Their speed isn't really comparable

It certainly could be Devery getting traded. Moore, Roby, and Arrington don't have enough trade value to get anyone good, and there's no way we would trade Colston, so Devery is really the only other likely candidate.

Man, I trust the front office, but damn, I would not care for that one bit.
Of course, I suppose it depends on the LB we'd get in return.

Devery is the only WR under contract for more than 2 seasons. There's a chance we would lose both Colston and Meachem after 2011 and we'd be buggered. Devery would at least allow us to transition to a new WR corps. Meachem is most likely.
ETA: Neworleans.com doesn't exactly have a track record of inside scoops.

No way they trade Devery, a hometown favorite. And I personally will admit wouldn't think would amount to crap.
They've got to get what they can for Lance Moore...if they can package him with like a 5th for a good OLB with upside, you have to take it.

Meachem or Moore, I'd think

Off the top of my head I can't think of a team with an extra OLB to spare that needs a WR.

Out of the WRs Meachem does give the highest return and is most replaceable as far as role.
That's not the only possibility though. A lot of teams are hurting at DB which we could spare. Randall Gay would be easy if they thought PRob was up to it. Gay is gone next year anyway (unless restructured on the cheap). Then PRob, a 1st Rd CB, could bring in a substantial return.
Baltimore needs WR & DB. I'll go way out Madden style...
Meachem + Robinson + Dunbar
for
Terrell Suggs + 2011 3rd Rd Draft Pick
Suggs under contract for 5 years- 2010: $1.9 million, 2011: $3.4 million (including salary and bonuses), 2012: $4.9 million (including salary and bonuses), 2013: $6.4 million, 2014: $7.8 million
He's lost weight and looks revitalized. A ferocious pass rusher.

Also, this business about,

Gay is gone next year anyway
I honestly think Gay would pay the Saints to get another shot.

Dunno, Gay is going to end up being a dime back next season, so unless he's willing to play for, at most, $1m, he can probably find more money and playing time elsewhere.
And I don't think this is a good idea anyway. LBs take time to learn the system. Make a deal for a DT, he'll improve the DL AND make things easier for the LBs behind him.

he's a good enough guy but it's the contract. If this were a capped year he would be no easy keep at $2.5mil. Next year $3.5mil with a 1st Rd CB pick in the wings.
