Just watching ESPN. Why do they go by the AP poll? Isnt the coaches poll a bigger factor in the BCS formula?

That bothers me to. The AP poll holds no weight it's meaningless...the coaches' poll actually helps decide the BCSNC.

I guess the media are going to use the "media" poll though.

It fits their agenda. They use whatever poll is convenient at the time. A la USC 2003.

I have been saying the same thing to myself for weeks...

The coaches poll counts toward the BCS but not the AP...

Its probably their way of taking a stab at the BCS!

ESPN dropped co-sponsorship of the coaches poll in 2005. Since that time they've worshiped the AP poll.

A concept completely lost on this group.

Because the AP is a media poll and they are the central hub for college football media. Writers and newsgroups would love to impose their opinions and make these choices seem as legitimately valid as possible to the viewing public. By using the AP poll, they are subtly suggesting that the voice of the media is the one that is most important.

ABC = ESPN. ABC is major media player in AP.

Not surprising that a media outlet would use the AP poll since many of their guests and commentators are/were members of that poll.

It's still the most accurate and unbiased human poll and what the coaches and Harris voters look to for guidance.

It may not be part of the BCS but it is a better poll than the Coaches poll. The CP is the biggest scam in college football today. Who has less time on a Saturday night to vote in a poll than a college football coach? Who has less interest in what is going on in games other than their own than a college football coach? Who is more single minded and intensely focused during the fall than a college football coach? This is why they don't vote in the poll. Their SIDs do! THey should either call it the SID poll to be intellectually honest or just find a new way of ranking. The AP poll is at least voted on by guys who have time to watch games.

The AP is a cooperative owned by its contributing newspapers, radio and television stations in the United States, which both contribute stories to the AP and use material written by its staff journalists. Many newspapers and broadcasters outside the United States are AP subscribers, paying a fee to use AP material without being contributing members of the cooperative.

ESPN is the "media" via the AP. They boast the poll that the influence.
