If you're a dumbass and follow TheRoarRestored, you will add a few unnecessary hours to your drive to eat eggrolls. Bad idea.

We're not really dealing with the mecca of food when you think about Mobile, Montgomery, and Auburn.

That goes without saying about Bama fare, but if you must stop along the way. Those are two decent stops between La and Atl, not far off the path.

Mr Chen's is on par with most La best Chinese/Taiwanese fare(if from BR..solid Chinese is something folks are jonesing for..because we certainly don't have any here). And Irondale/Whistlestop does solid Fried Green Tomato, which isn't on the menu at many places, nor done well at those that do.

Personally, I find even Atlanta to be lacking in contrast to it's overall populace, demographics, and national stature as a city, at least in terms of dining. Though it has some great ones.

Overall, I'd agree, just drive, forget stopping most anywhere until Downtown Atl or in Buckhead. And even then, pick wisely.

I tend to agree. I think the lacking is in personality more than quality. Sterile.

I am surprised how many people even go the Birmingham route. The other way is faster.

The Bham route? People actually go that way? I honestly thought the guy had simply lost his geographic "way".

If you do decide to go 20 extra miles on the birmingham way...hit Chez Fon Fon in B'Ham...trust me.

The Birmingham route is only an extra 18 miles. I prefer this route anyway as the drive from Mobile to Montgomery is miserable. At least you have semi-big cities almost all along the way goign the I59-20 route.

Have you eaten here? I've threatened it to my wife a couple of times, but the looks I get always keep me driving through that wasteland that is indeed I-65.

Better restaurant options in B'Ham too. Montgomery is just awful...

Fair point.

Since I am either trying to get there or home, drive through is all I care about, so better restaurants is irrelevant to me.

Tiger Attorney suggestion of Chez Fon Fon is good but it can be a pain getting in and out of that section of Bham depending on time of day. Really nice area though and a solid meal.

A extremely underrated restaurant in Kozy's in Tuscaloosa. It's very convenient off the interstate and isn't usually crowded. I'm not sure exactly when it opens (might not be until 4 PM so timing may not work out) but the food and service is more in line with what many of you are use to in New Orleans. Blows Chuck's Fish out of the water.

P.S. Agree with Attorney too about going I-20 instead of 65/85. The drive from just east of Ttown all the way to Atlanta is much prettier/more scenic and you only add maybe 20 miles/minutes to the trip. The drive between Mobile and Montgomery is insanely boring.

They have plate lunches and sandwiches, plus a slamming pecan pie!
