I was playing SOCOM earlier when my PS3 turned off by itself in the middle of a match. I had been playing for about 2 hours. I have never had problems with it before. I took a can of air duster and cleaned out a lot of dust. I thought it had just overheated or something. I have tried 3 or 4 times to restart it. The light turns green, quickly turns yellow, and then turns red and starts to blink. If anyone knows what could be wrong or can help, it will be appreciated.

You might want to put some toothpaste inside of it. It may be scratching your disk. plus the Minty freshness will prevent over heating. Also the paste will collect the dust and dirt.

it sounds like the yellow light of death

you can google for more info

kbeezy has dealt with this a good bit and he can give you some links on how to fix it yourself for about 30 bucks

he said it was pretty easy, i have not tried personally

Good luck. I think SOny charges and arm and a leg to get it fixed.

Didn't click your link, but glisky is the YouTube vid you want

It isn't terribly hare to fix, but it is likely to happen again after maybe 6 weeks

Once you do it a couple of times though you can do it in about 40 minutes or so. If you don't mind fixing it for an hour every month, try it.

If not, psr1.com is pretty good service and has a 90 day warranty.

But ultimately, your gonna need to get a slim. The older models break over and over

Yeah, don't think I'm gonna try and fix it myself or send it in to get fixed. After all, the problem still might happen again in the future. I think I'm just gonna try and get a slim. Do they get the YLOD?

The slim has a few changes to it that were supposed to correct ylod, but not enough time has really passed to say for sure

I now own a slim with no probs. You should go for the slim. They are relatively cheap as well
