Here's why this is a colossal fail on the part of Les Miles

First of all, I am not the least bit angry with Zach Lee. That young man did exactly what I would have done in the same situation. He is looking out for his own best interests, and used the tools at his disposal to negotiate the best contract that he could. This involved making the Dodgers think he had other interests to pursue and didn't mind not signing a deal. Good for him.
If Les Miles had 1/10th of the cunning and foresight of Zach Lee then we would not be in this situation.
Everybody - everybody - knew when Zach Lee was recruited that he was a big-time baseball prospect who was a likely 1st rounder. Everybody also knows that MLB first rounders get multi-million dollar contracts. Who in the hell is going to turn down 1st-round money to risk injury playing college football? Seriously. And before you run to the history books to find some example, be aware that for every 1 kid you can find that passed up the money I can find 99 who took it. Let's all agree for purposes of this discussion that 1st round picks almost always take the money.
So, 1) knowing that the kid will be a 1st rounder, and 2) knowing that 1st rounders almost always leave, and 3) knowing by this point that Chris Garret is apparently not what you were looking for, and 5) knowing that your only two real quarterbacks (who have both struggled mightily) will be juniors this year, Les Miles signs only 1 quarterback?!?!?! The guy who is unlikely to ever play a down????? This for an offense that was 112 out of 117 last year.
How in the world did Miles reach this sort of decision? Has he examined the history of high draft picks in baseball? Did he talk to Paul Mainieri at all about this? Tell me what other top programs are in this situation right now.
If you are finding any positivity out of Les Miles latest turd then good for you. You probably spin the clock-management debacle at Ole Miss too. Seriously, good for you. If you are the type of person that can get pissed on and then convince yourself it's raining then I applaude you. I wish I were more like you.
I'm not like you, though, and I expect our coach to think 2 or 3 steps ahead at all times. I'm sure Miles is sitting in his office right now thinking "this kid really screwed us over." bullshite. You didn't have the knowledge or foresight to know how these things play out and to have a plan.
And anyone who calls me a crybaby is just lashing out in anger at their own inability to come to terms with what the rest of us have known for a long time:
Les Miles is in over his head. He was able to keep the wheels on Saban's truck long enough to pull out some nice seasons, but he is not the guy who is going to maintain this program at an elite level.
And if you don't see this, it's probably because you are just like him. You are the 112 best employe (out of 117) at your office, and you are fine with that. You are certainly not the boss.
Have a great day.

So Les never offered any other QB's? He never had to kick any retards (RP) off the team at the QB position. I guess there was this huge list of 5 star QB's that wanted to play for LSU, but Les told them no.
By the way, I am the boss at work, but it is you who looks like a janitor in this one.

He did in fact recruit 5 QBs over 4 years. It's looking like it's going to be 7 QBs over 5 years after this recruiting class also.
Something was missing but it sure as frick wasn't numbers.

Its hard to argue with this analysis, but certainly some will try.

A long winded bullshite post. You know nothing about college football. Do you think any coach in college football would NOT have recruited Zach Lee? You are a moron. Do the world a favor and don't procreate.

Les got caught with his pants down not once but twice.

The hell you are. Becuase if you were the boss of anyone you would know by now the difference between bullshite and results. bullshite is when you say "but I tried calling and nobody answered," or when you say "I tried, but the other guys in my group are holding me back," or "I tried signing a good quarterback, but no one wanted to play here."
Results are things like having good players on the roster, or like having a win over Ole Miss at some point in the last 2 seasons.
You accept mediocrity, and that is what you get in return. You are weak and unmotivated.

He recruited 5 guys that played QB in high school not 5 guys that would be college QB's.
You mean to tell me he really thought that R Shep. was going to be a college QB and that there was not a chance Z Lee never came to campus.
That has been his epic fail.
He has to have the foresight to not only recruit numbers but to recruit guys that will first off make it to campus and secondly fit the system.

No, but you have to have a backup plan for if/when this kid decides to play baseball instead. The wait and see approach is not a good approach in college football.

He wasn't the only one who would have thought Shep would be a college QB. Had Shepard gone to a place like Florida, Oregon, WVU, etc. He would be.
7 QBs over 5 years should be plenty even with the above average amount of attrition. Hell, take Shepard out of that equation and 6 QBs over 5 years should be enough too.

Let's change the wording a little bit and see if we can't agree.
"Do you think any coach in college football would NOT have recruited a quarterback who is going to be offered 3 million dollars to not actually play the position for you?"
My answer to that query is "yes." In fact, this same problem did not happen this season to Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Jim Tressel, Mack Brown, and many others.
It is because they are not stupid and our coach is.
