But plans to play football with Clemson still. Someone please explain to me how this works and why Zach Lee wouldn't do the same.
TIA!
TIA!

Did he sign for 5 million? Where was he drafted?

B/c the dodgers probably would net let him

negotiation
He probably also lost around a million to stay and play football. Last week they offered him 2.2, he rejected. Last night he signed for 1.1. I'm guessing he took the cut to stay at Clemson.

According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, Parker's family took out an insurance policy which allowed the quarterback to return to football for at least one season. If he is hurt, the Rockies will not have to fulfill his contract.

Cause he doesn't have the want to do that...

It's in Lee's contract that he can't play both baseball and football. Dodgers wouldn't have given hiim $5 million if he was going to play football here.

Parker took less money so he could play quarterback. He will also have to give some of the bonus back if he continues to play QB after this year. I don't know how much less Lee would've had to take to convince the Dodgers to do this.
I don't really see how Parker's deal helps Parker or the Rockies, but maybe that's just me.

isnt parker a senior? That could have something to do with it. The rockies know it will only be for one more season then he can report to baseball full time. In Lee's case he'd have several years of splitting time and increased injury risk

Lee isn't the starter this year, so why the hell would he wait around to play?

Parker is a sophomore. But I believe the Rockies have structured it so that if he plays another season at QB, he loses some of his bonus.

Lee could have done the same if he wanted to. Parker negotiated it into his contract forgoing a little money in return. However Parker is the unquestioned starter at Clemson while Lee would be riding pine for 2 years most likely. It wasn't in his best interest to leave a few mil on the table so he could be a 3rd stringer.
An interesting sign and go to school case is Jack McGeary, signed by the Nationals out of HS in 2007. They gave him 1.8 and let him attend Stanford, while playing ball in the summer after classes. (By signing a contract he was obviously ineligible to play NCAA)

Lee did what was best for him, like most or all of us would have done.

Another thing is that it would be dumb for Lee to do this. Parker is for sure going to be the starter next year, while Lee would ride the bench for two years
